  • Keep Baby in Bed A Little Longer With Lightcatcher Curtains

My daughter is not generally an early riser, except when we're at my parent's house. Their house is all windows, so as soon as the first glimmer of sunlight peeks through the window, she is up and ready to be entertained.

I, on the other hand, am so not a morning person. It's not good for anyone for me to be up at 7 a.m., especially on a weekend. So when I was offered the opportunity to test out the new Lightcatcher Curtains, I was all in.

Now we've all heard of blackout curtains, but all the ones I've encountered are, well, black. Or some other dark, dismal color that I definitely wouldn't want in my daughter's room. But this is what makes the Lightcatcher Curtain different.

They come in pretty pastel colors with sweet pattens that are suitable for a child's room or nursery. I tried a very pale green set with brown teddy bears on them and I was amazed that they actually kept the light out. The room wasn't pitch black, but it was just dark enough to keep my daughter

  • Pregnancy Belly Cast Kits: Does Anyone Buy These Things?

I was surfing the web for baby shower gift ideas and came across these pregnancy belly cast kits. I know, they're nothing new, but it made me wonder...does anyone buy these kits?

Call me Debbie Downer, but pictures of me and my pregnant belly are bad enough. To be reminded of how huge I was in 3D? No thanks! And I can't imagine displaying the finished product anywhere in my house. Maybe if I had Heidi Klum's supermodel pregnant body, or maybe if I did the cast when I was 4 months pregnant and told everyone that's how I looked when I was 9 months along. Maybe.

What about you? What do you think of these pregnancy belly cast kits? Have you used one before? Share in the comments section below.

  • Renew Your Child's Love of Reading With the 2010 Caldecott Award Winners

Every year, the American Library Association (ALA) awards the Caldecott Medal to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children. ALA agreed with us, because this year's winner is A Sick Day for Amos McGee, which we featured as one of the best books of 2010!

Looking to update your reading routine? Don't just take the ALA's word for it--we highly recommend Amos, too. It's a simple story about a kind zookeeper who is repaid for his lifetime of caring for his animals when he catches a cold. Of course, the illustrations bring the story to life in a way your child won't be able to resist.

But don't stop there. There were two Caldecott Honor Books for 2010 that your kids are sure to love, as well:

Dave the Potter is a beautiful, artistic interpretation of Dave the potter's artistic process, which conveys the dignified triumph of his humanity in the face of oppression. The art is breathtaking, and paired with the poetic, soulful text, this is a

  • Who Has $386 To Spend On a Diaper Bag?

If you raised your hand, allow me to introduce you to Nest Children's Mercer bag. Yes, it is a diaper bag--and a very fabulous one at that--that really is $386.

So what does that kind of money buy you in a baby bag? Well, there are tons of pockets, a detachable stroller strap, a cool, easy-to-clean zip-out lining and a changing pad stored in that little compartment on the bottom.

And now you're probably thinking, "how's that any different from the $100 diaper bags?" Well, it's not really. Aside from the fact that this bag is patent leather and suede, it really doesn't come with any special features that justifies its astronomical price tag.

But you do have to admit it's awfully pretty, isn't it? And if someone gave it to you, you'd totally take it, right? Yeah, I would, too...

  • My Daughter Is Scared of Mr. Potato Head. What’s Your Child Scared Of?

Mr. Potato Head looks innocent enough, but my 21 month-old daughter freaks out every time she sees him. Maybe it's because he has big, googly eyes. Or maybe it's because her big brother likes to take Mr. Potato's big, googly eyes out of his head…and replace them with his feet, ears or nose.

I guess it's not surprising since research has shown that babies prefer looking at attractive faces over unattractive faces, and Mr. Potato Head is on the ugly side. So poor Mr. Potato Head has been banished from the play room.

This makes me wonder, what other "scary" toys out there aren't so hot with the tots? Is your child afraid of any toys? Share your stories in the comments section below.

  • Kidz Bop… Does Anyone Buy These CDs?

I have to admit, the Kidz Bop commercial is catchy. Every time one comes on (which seems like every five minutes on Nickelodeon), both my kids go crazy and start dancing. My six year-old hits rewind again and again to listen to "Dynamite"…until I go crazy and tell him to stop. Haven't seen one? Prepare yourself...

As much as both of my children seem to like the commercial, they've never asked me to buy the CD. Thank God! Of course, my 21 month-old doesn't know any better, but my son doesn't ask either. He seems content enough watching the commercials...but asks for every other thing he sees on the tube.

So I'm wondering, does anyone actually buy these Kidz Bop CDs? This latest one is version 19, so I'm guessing that there is a market for this children's music franchise. Now confess. Do you have any of the Kidz Bop CDs? Are your kids fans? Share in the comments section below.

  • And dad is probably a fox, too. No, really. According to a study featured in the Daily Mail, attractive couples are more likely to have daughters.

And who needs hard scientific data when the proof is right there in Hollywood, California.

Jessica Alba and Cash Warren? Hot. And they have Honor.

Halle Berry and Gabriel Aubry? Hot. And they have Nahla. Need we keep going?

Okay, I'll admit I am a little impartial because I have a daughter, so I want to know what you think-do you think this study has any merit? Weigh in in the comments.

And if you're hot, too-I mean if you have a daughter, too, check out these girls' rain boots and jean leggings she's sure to love.

  • Bunnies, bears and baby ducks are ho-hum when it comes to decorating your kid's room, but giraffes and zebras? They're another breed; they're not too sweet, and they work well for little boys and girls...whether they're six months or six years old.

Take this new Tree Table with Zebra and Giraffe Chairs Set from P'kolino for example. How clever are the animal silhouettes? And that tree table? Genius! This is the kind of toddler furniture you wish you had when you were growing up, and it's the perfect spot for your kid to play, get creative, or share a snack. Best part? The price is surprisingly pretty affordable.

  • Let's Take a Minute Just For Us Moms This Afternoon...

I don't know about you, but I'm not sure I fully recovered from the craziness that was this past holiday season. And already I'm being bombarded with things I need to think about for Valentine's Day, plus there are 2011 doctor's appointments to be scheduled, snow pants to be purchased in preparation for the next snowstorm and vacation to be considered. This, on top of the fact that I have resolutions to keep. Yikes! It feels like I never got a break.

Feeling the same? Well this post is for you. When you start to feel overwhelmed and run-ragged (kind of like I did this morning), it's important to have something you can do that instantly relaxes you. For some people it's a massage or a cup of tea, but I don't have time for massages and I'm not a big tea drinker. Instead, I find washing my face with warm water so soothing. So that's what I did this morning. For 15 minutes. And because I was feeling particularly glum, I decided to finally try out the new Josie Maran products I

  • I don't want to start the new year complaining, but what is it with stores already displaying items for Valentine's Day? I went to Target last week to buy diapers, and found not one, but two aisles fully stocked with Valentine's Day gifts. There were chocolates, candies, stuffed animals, greeting cards, you name it.

Call me grumpy, but I'm not in the mood for love…yet. I still have my Christmas decorations up for goodness sake! Give me a few weeks to recover from the hectic holidays, and then we can talk about Valentine's Day.
