    I'm kind of fascinated by foam rollers these days. Ever since I started running, my hips have been bothering me (likely IT band issues), and running gurus have advised me to stretch them out on foam rollers.

    This fitness gadget can also help tone your abs (see the photo above), and can give a pretty good massage (just roll sore muscles over the roller). (The gals over at The Stir recently shared their love of foam rollers, too.)

    Not into spending $25 on yet another fitness product? Here's another idea: In a pinch, a tightly rolled up and bound yoga mat can do the job, too (although less firm and stable).

    Even though she's the aunt to little 5-month-old Mason, apparently Kim can't stomach public breastfeeding, or so she said in a recent tweet: "EWW Im at lunch,the woman at the table next 2 me is breast feeding her baby w no coverup."

    Then, Kim continues, things at the restaurant take a turn for the worst: "Then [she] puts baby on the table and changes her diaper."

    OK, so the diaper on the table, yeah, maybe a little unappetizing. And the nursing without a coverup? I get how this could turn some people off (its why they invented nursing covers.   • New Show Confronts Size, Body Image and "Fat Camp"

    People are buzzing about a new ABC show set to air on June 28 starring Nikki Blonsky (from Hairspray) in a drama about a teen's journey through fat camp and body acceptance. Will you watch it? Here are my thoughts ...

    "I couldn't be more thrilled that the main characters are all plus-sized," actress Nikki Blonsky said. "It's ground-breaking in that way. I think kids will be able to relate because they can finally say about someone on television: that person looks like me."

    Critics are already cheering about lines from show, like this one from Blonsky's character: "Everyone wants us to hate our bodies. Well, I refuse to."

    While I think this looks like a terrific show, I wanted to throw something out there: The bit about "I refuse to hate my body" is empowering, for sure.   • Meet Ella, The Highly Effective Morning-After Pill Available in 44 Countries, But Not the U.S.

    Women in 44 countries around the world have access to a novel new emergency contraception pill called Ella. The FDA is reviewing the new drug, but will American women ever gain access to it?

    The FDA is reviewing the new new emergency contraceptive, commonly known as Ella, for approval in the United States. The European pill, which prevents pregnancy up to 120 hours after unprotected sex, has already been approved in 44 countries. And while some conservative groups in the U.S. are already protesting the drug, women's health advocates like Christiane Northrup, M.D., hopes it will pass through the approval process quickly. "The number one predictor of a woman's status worldwide is whether or not she has dominion over her fertility," she writes.

    Northrup provides some details on the drug: "[It] is comprised of ulipristal acetate, an antiprogesterone drug that prevents pregnancy by delaying ovulation," she says. "Though ulipristal acetate has similarities in chemical action to

    Caroline from BlissTree reports the latest oddball research news: That TV may not be the evil villain we've always thought it was. "TV shows with multiple main characters, moral ambiguities, and overlapping plot strands engage your brain's problem-solving skills and social intelligence factor," she writes.

    Other ways to flex those brain muscles: sleep (it improves memory), playing musical instruments, and getting into healthy debates with friends.

    So, there you have it: A reason to not feel like a lazy-pants for kicking back a little tonight. :)

  • Happiness News: Guess Who Suffers More After a Breakup--You or Your Ex?

    Have you ever been through a bad breakup? I have, and though I'm happily married now, I do remember feeling so miserable (for months!), and I likened the experience to a death. Yes, breakups are hard. But guess who takes them the hardest: gals or guys ...

    Surprising right? They may look tough, but their crying on the inside, at least according to a new study from researchers at Wake Forest University. They found that while women are more likely to vocalize their sadness to friends, men tend to "store up" their feelings, causing negative health effects and a tendency to abuse alcohol as a result.

    So, files this away for a time when you're going through the breakup from hell and remember that he's probably having a tough time, too, even if he's all smiles.

    Got a good breakup story to share? Oh boy do I, but it would read like a short novel. :)

  • Bachelorette Ali Thinks She Needs to Lose Weight. My Response? No You Don't, Girl!

    Do you watch The Bachelorette? I will go ahead and confess: It's the reason why I looooove Monday nights. This show (and The Bachelor) has been a guilty pleasure of mine for a long time. One of the reasons why I love this season is that I think Ali looks great. So now that I'm reading reports that she's on a crash diet, I'm a little bummed ...Is Ali not the cutest Bachelorette ever? By the way, who are you rooting for?     Who doesn't want to make their workout as effective as possibly, right? If you're trying to burn fat, for instance, you may consider taking the latest advice from researchers ...

    The latest word on fat-burning? Don't eat before a workout.

    Though many athletes have to eat before they run (think: Lance Armstrong, etc.), if you're trying to burn fat efficiently, you may want to hold off on that snack until later. According to European researchers, cyclists who trained without eating first burned "significantly" more fat than those who ate a snack prior to a bike ride.

    It all has to do with the way your muscles use energy, reports the AP: "When you exercise (after fasting), your adrenaline is high and your insulin is low," said Peter Hespel, a professor of exercise physiology at the University of Leuven in Belgium. "That ratio is favorable for your muscles to oxidize (break down) more fatty acids."
