  • 20 Ultra-Extravagant Rings from Your Wildest One-Percent Dreams

    by John Jannuzzi

If you go by history, rings are probably the most important piece of jewelry around. Long before they were associated with engagements and marriage, they were seen as symbols of power for monarchs, spiritual leaders and the like. I've even heard stories of one ring that was forged in the fires of Mount Doom that controls all others. I don't know if that's true or not, but I imagine it should be destroyed from the fiery chasm from whence it came.

Anyway, these days, anybody can buy and wear a ring. But if you're not just "anybody" and happen to be a leisurely living member of the one percent, then these are the ones for you. Each is handpicked from the most luxurious jewelers we could think of, all with price tags that will send you into sticker shock.

And remember, when you're dealing with the staff at Cartier, Harry Winston and their peers, know that prices will vary based on clarity, etc.

  • 10 Reasons Why the O.C.’s Marissa Cooper was TV’s Most Stylish Character Ever

    by Elana Fishman

Today's TV shows are packed with chic leading ladies-Mad Men's Megan Draper, Downton Abbey's Lady Mary, Game of Thrones' resident platinum-haired ass-kicker Daenerys. But for those who came of age in the early aughts, few onscreen characters compared to the utter fabulousness of The O.C.'s Marissa Cooper (may she rest in peace).

Played by Mischa Barton, the impeccably-coiffed high schooler had a designer-label-packed wardrobe that totally masked her turbulent mood swings and hard-partying ways. Even when she was passing out in a Tijuana alleyway or being almost-molested by her on-again-off-again boyfriend's brother (why you gotta cause so much trouble, Trey?!), the troubled teen always looked flawlessly styled. So in honor of the fact that 10 years-yes, 10-have passed since the series' premiere, I've rounded up 10 reasons why Coop was the chicest teen to ever grace the small screen.

  • Your Guide to Using Makeup Brushes like a Pro

    by Sarah Ferguson

I own a coffee mug full of makeup brushes. Some are short and squat with pillowy bristles. Some are tall and sleek with angled fibers. Others are somewhere in between. But all of them, for the most part, are collecting dust.

I was never a star art student. Brushes have always intimidated me, so as a kid, finger painting was more my speed. Embarrassingly enough, I still employ that practice today when doing my makeup.

Despite my hesitation, I know my beauty look could be greatly improved if I finally learned how to use the correct tools, so I turned to makeup artist and brush wizard Sonia Kashuk for a crash course.

  • Rihanna Wants Every Piece in Her New River Island Collection

    by Alison Syrett Cleary

Whereas some women build their perfect wardrobe piece by piece over time, Rihanna went ahead and created it in one go with her Fall/Winter collection for River Island. "I literally designed everything I want to wear-exactly how I want to wear it," she explains in a behind-the-scenes POV during the line's campaign shoot.

Of course, the things Rihanna-she of bra tops and denim thongs-wants to wear only suit a particular breed of women. So if camouflage, mesh and hiking boot stilettos aren't your thing, it's best to stop reading now. Otherwise, click through the slideshow above to see every piece from the latest Rihanna x River Island collaboration, along with its accompanying lookbook. Since the first delivery doesn't hit stores until September 12 (the second is in November), you've got at least a little time to muster enough bravery to try some of the bolder pieces (cough, cough, varsity stripe lumberjack pajamas, cough, cough) in public. We suggest putting

  • Why Supporting Your Favorite Designers Should Never Involve a Jersey

    by John Jannuzzi

    Designer JerseyDesigner Jersey
Over the past few weeks, I've noticed a growing trend. I've seen it on the web, on the street and in my office. It's a trend I don't particularly care for and what's worse, cannot escape. In fact, this morning while I was thinking of how much I dislike said trend, an offender walked right in front of me. My usual eye roll kicked into gear at the sight-especially when I realized I'd probably be seeing this trend all over the fast-approaching fashion week.

The trend I'm talking about is the designer jersey. A simple play on sports apparel that has a designer name and birth year on the back. Certainly, the idea is for anybody to show his or her support of a favored designer. It inevitably begs questions like: "Are you Team Jacobs or Philo?" You can shout out your allegiance to Azzedine Alaia, Alexander Wang or even the retired Martin Margiela, among others.

Phillip Lim for TargetPhillip Lim for Target

We can barely contain our excitement over Phillip Lim's forthcoming collaboration for Target-September 15 is nearly just one month away, people!-and now, thanks to Instagram (and the eagle-eyed peeps at Fashionfoiegras.com, to be precise), we've finally got a visual. This recently-'grammed shot of a 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target editorial ad reveals longtime Lim favorite Tao Okamoto to be the face of the collab-and more importantly, we now know that the collection will include a less-pricey version of the Pashli satchel that nearly every Lucky staffer already owns and adores. • Lucky Mag Editor-In-Chief's Fail-Safe, Running Late Outfit

    by Natalie Matthews

Our editor-in-chief, Eva Chen, needs a running late outfit more than most of us. She's busy. Really busy. Her default?

    Eva ChenEva Chen

"Almost always a dress, because it's so much easier to just throw on one piece than try to coordinate separates. But it has to be a printed dress, one that packs a lot of visual impact. I've got some from Marc Jacobs and Proenza Schouler that are particularly amazing. For shoes, I'll add some sleek, pointy-toed heels. Gianvito Rossi makes really good ones, and I've also got a pair with some of that clear PVC material on them; they're versatile but more interesting than plain black or brown. Then I usually add a neutral bag and some sunglasses-I keep a stack of Warby Parkers by my door so I can grab them on the way out-and I'm done."

It sounds easy, but it centers around finding the right dress, like the floral Marc Jacobs one Eva's wearing above. (Which is almost enough to distract us from that puppy next to her. Almost.) It's got to be

They're the latest shoe to boomerang from Antiquated Footwear Land to Ironically Cool Footwear Land. Suddenly, pairing a summery dress with a delicate strappy sandal feels sorta safe, but picking a Birkenstock or another clunky sandal for that gauzy sundress or cropped pant is cool. Of course, those formulas-ugly shoe + pretty dress; ugly shoe + polished separates-they're old ones. Old ones and good ones.

We love the off-kilter look they create, whether it's nailed via Birkenstocks or soccer mom sneakers or '90s-style Spice Girls flatforms, so we thought we'd round up some of our favorite "ugly" or scarlet letter-stamped shoes on the market now. From
