Weird Beauty Product We Love: Granular Face ScrubsWeird Beauty Product We Love: Granular Face Scrubs There's nothing like a good exfoliating scrub: It sloughs off dead skin cells, gives you a rosy glow and most importantly makes your face feel super clean. Lately, though, the thick, creamy versions I live for during the winter have been feeling too heavy, which is why I'm having a serious love affair with exfoliant powders.

The stuff is awesome. You dump the powder into wet palms and rub hands together until you have a froth or creamy paste. Then, exfoliate away and rinse. They're great for travel (less likely to spill -- and no 3 fl oz rule) and are generally much finer, and thus gentler, on skin, which is great for baby-faced folks like myself. A few of my faves?

Dermalogica Daily Microexfoliant ($52): My gateway drug to granular scrubs, this formula is nothing short of awesome. It's got exfoliants like rice enzymes and salicylic acid, brighteners like grapefruit and licorice, and skin soothers like colloidal oatmeal. I

photo by Shaw Patricphoto by Shaw Patric It will happen: At some point your boss is going to hand you your ass, or a guy will crush your heart, or, hell, some minor nitpick will manage to shatter your ego. It's life. And that you can't control. What you can control is how you react to, process and come back from that hideous moment. Options: Let it rip you apart, or build your resilience so it fuels you on to the next thing. Here's how to stay strong when you're...

    Getting criticized
So maybe your guy makes a "suggestion" about your career decisions or your mom questions your lifestyle. Remember this: Your loved ones tend to criticize because they care and want you to succeed. Your boss doesn't have the same emotional investment in you when she's chiding you for your job performance, but remember that being constructively criticized means you're worthy of criticism--people don't bother to fix things they don't care about. It's a you-and-me team mentality, not a you-versus-me rivalry, and now you know how

    by Amanda MacMillan

After last week's heat wave, you've probably heard a lot about the importance of keeping cool and staying hydrated -- but because the summer is far from over, it bears repeating. After all, drinking water throughout the day will help keep you healthy, increase energy levels, improve your fitness performance, and may even go as far as to boost brain power.

But we get it: It's a lot more fun, and easy to remember, to drink all day long when you're toting around a super cool accessory. That's why we love these three new water bottles, perfect for the pool, your purse, or your next workout.

  • The Secret to Glowy, Bright Skin is Right Here

    by Alexandra Samuel

Have you guys ever tried sheet masks? Originally orrowed from Korean culture, these babies are made of cotton (or a similar material) and cut to the shape of a face (roughly, at that), and are soaked in a TON of skin goodness. My editor, Rachel, sent me over a few that just hit the market and I'm so not surprised that they're seriously back en vogue.

Sure, they can be crazy expensive, but they're awesome enough to overcome the sometimes heart attack-inducing price tags. For one? You never have much to clean up, unlike all the other formulas which leave you with a peeling or goopy mess. They're also travel friendly, as they come in individual packets, so use one post-flight to brighten skin or merely refresh your face. And since they're packed with varying benefits, there's definitely a new formula (or an old classic) that's perfect for you. Check out my faves, then share yours!

  • Get Toned Up and Burn Cals in the Pool

    by Karen Asp

photo by Arthur Belebeau Sure, summer is all about relaxing by the pool and getting some sun (fully protected, of course). But you can put down that trashy romance novel and get a toned up, too! Our cool pool moves burn calories and firm sexy muscles.

All you need is a pool noodle (you know, those little foam toys you loved as a kid!) to do our seven easy firming moves. Or, focus on melting fat with these stealthy (and fun!) cardio sizzlers.

    TREAD

You can chat up your girlfriends in the deep end while zapping 11 calories per minute (the equivalent of running more than 6 mph) by treading water. It's pretty simple: Move arms horizontally as you quickly circle legs to stay afloat.

    CLIMB

Mountain climbers are a beast on dry land. When you're weightless in the pool, they feel deceptively simple, even though the resistance from the H2O is upping your burn. Stand in chest-deep water with hands on the pool deck in an incline push-up. Drive right knee to chest,

  • Is it OK to Scrub Away Calluses?

    by Alexandra Samuel

Arthur BelebeauArthur BelebeauThere's one question I get every summer and, of course, this year is no different. People always want to know: "Is it okay to scrub away calluses during my pedi if I'm a serious runner?" And it's a totally understandable question. On the one hand, calluses protect our feet while we hit the pavement (over and over and over and over...). On the other hand, they're less than attractive when we're rocking super-cute sandals.

    So, should you ditch 'em?

First, you've gotta understand why you get calluses. As you run, certain parts of your foot rub more than others depending on your foot strike. (For me, it's the inside of the front of my foot.) Those areas get slightly damaged every time they rub and -- since our skin is super smart -- build up a protective layer of hardened dead skin. See, calluses aren't so bad.

So, if they're protecting your foot, you shouldn't scrub them away, right? Wrong. You do want to scrub them

Courtesy of LuxeCoat/via InstagramCourtesy of LuxeCoat/via Instagram Guys, am I the only one who notices people's mani's before the ring in their "OMG WE JUST GOT ENGAGED" picture? Does that make me terrible? I can't help it. [Ed. note: No, it doesn't. Mine is an embarrassment to beauty editors everywhere. - RJ] But what's worse, ladies, is an imperfect day-of manicure, because those pics, well, they last even longer than your "I do" insta.

So when one of my favorite polish companies, LuxeCoat, shared this composite on Insta of dream manis for newly engaged Victoria's Secret Angel Behati Prinsloo (to Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine), I was totally inspired. You know why? The one on the left, sure, is awesome, but the one on the right? Well, it's crazy simple (read: easy) -- and hits just the right note between cutesy and cool. And also, if you're not rocking an engagement ring, you can pull this look off too: Just switch out the metallic polish for your favorite neon shade. Now, get the mani in just a few easy steps.
