  • Appetizer alert: Orders that serve up 1,000+ calories before the main course

Here are a few restaurant appetizers with less than appetizing nutritional stats, plus some better-for-you choices from Hungry Girl!

Outback Steakhouse: Alice Springs Chicken Quesadilla

    2,140 calories & 132 grams of fat!

By now, most people know to stay clear of the Bloomin' Onion, a.k.a. the tower of fried terror. But did you know that's NOT the worst appetizer on the menu? This quesadilla is! Even if you share it with three pals, it will cost you 535 calories and 33g of fat. Ouch! Instead of swallowing this monstrosity before dinner is even served, opt for the Grilled Shrimp on the Barbie -- the entire plate has just 315 calories.

    Chili's: Texas Cheese Fries

    1,940 calories & 133 grams of fat!

We don't care that this starter is supposed to be split with others. Any pre-dinner item that has nearly 2,000 calories is just WRONG! Even a so-called

We're not going to tell you to skip the chocolates, red wine, and indulgent dinner this Valentine's Day. But here are some fun ways to burn off the calories!

    Live in a warm climate?
Start the day with an early morning hike. Hit the trails for 45 minutes, and you'll burn about 320 calories... Reason enough to order the steak for dinner!

Looking for a fun pre-dinner activity? Go dancing with your date. A mix of slow and fast dancing for an hour will help you burn about 250 calories. That'll easily afford you two glasses of red wine for the night.

Not only will you save money by choosing to eat in, but you'll also burn calories running around the supermarket shopping for groceries (100 calories or so) and bustling around the kitchen cooking the food (about 150 calories). With all those calories burned, go ahead and split a slice of chocolate cake with your dinner date!

Get under the covers! You knew it was coming... Yes, kissing, cuddling, etc., burns a

  • Hungry Girl's Super Bowl Sunday Survival Guide!

If you're having a crowd over for the Super Bowl, you'll probably be ordering in some standard game-day grub. Here are a few tips from Hungry Girl on how to indulge without fumbling your diet...

There are a few cardinal rules to remember.

    1. Thin crust is your friend. Save carby calories... you won't miss 'em!

    2. Load your up pie with fresh veggies. They will help you feel fuller and will add far fewer calories than all the crazy meats out there.

    3. Go easy on the cheese. Or order a saucy cheese-less pie, if you dare. Light or no cheese will save you LOTS of calories and grams of fat.

    4. Super-greasy pizza? Grab those napkins. Blot off the extra oil. No one's watching you... All eyes are on the TV screen. It's worth it. Trust us!

And if you feel pressured to get the decadent pizza with the scary meats for other people, order it; just make sure there's also plenty of the friendly, lightened-up pizza to indulge in.

Our love for Blue Diamond Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Breeze will never die, but it's always great to discover a new amazing milk swap. This nondairy milk drink is super-tasty and low in calories. We love it as an add-in for smoothies. Just don't confuse it with the fatty coconut milk that comes in a can. It's not the same!

    Stuffing, Average (1 cup = 356 calories & 17g fat)!

Make This Instead! HG's Save the Day Stuffing (1 cup = 88 calories & 1.5g fat)

This savory, starchy side dish is generally made by saturating bread cubes in butter, broth, egg, and any additional number of things. Sure it's yummy BUT the calories and fat grams are no friend to a holiday feast. The Hungry Girl version is super-delicious and has a tiny fraction of the calories and fat of the average stuffing!

    Mashed Potatoes, Average (2/3 cup = 160 calories & 6g fat)!

  • The Worst Sandwiches Money Can Buy

We went looking for the most calorie-packed item on the menu at popular national sandwich shops. Here's what we found. Warning: It's not pretty...

    Arby's: Ultimate BLT Sandwich

    PER SERVING (1 sandwich): 820 calories, 44g fat, 1,690mg sodium, 78g carbs, 5g fiber, 18g sugars, 32g protein

Considering that this is a) not even a super-large sub, b) part of the wholesome-sounding Market Fresh lineup, and c) often accompanied by a side dish (potentially a fried potato item), it's a bad choice. Sorry to be blunt, but it is what it is.

    Schlotzsky's: Deluxe Original-Style Sandwich

    PER SERVING (1 medium sandwich): 956 calories, 46g fat, 4,048mg sodium, 80g carbs, 5g fiber, 10g sugars, 55g protein

In terms of calorie-counting, the word "deluxe" is rarely a good thing. And this sandwich is no exception. So unless your goal is to get as much deli meat into your system as possible, you'll probably want to avoid this thing. Check out that sodium content -- YIKES!!!

  • Best Low-Cal Frozen Dinners Revealed (Lasagna, Pizza & More)!

Need a no-guilt dinner in a pinch? Here are some frozen standouts according to Hungry Girl...

Best Lasagna! Morningstar Farms Lasagna with Sausage-Style Crumbles

    PER SERVING (one 10-oz. entree): 270 calories, 6g fat, 590mg sodium, 41g carbs, 6g fiber, 5g sugars, 20g protein

There are a bazillion lasagnas out there -- some with meat, some without. We like this one because it's hearty even though it's meatless and it tastes GREAT. Plus, it's full of actual veggies in addition to soy protein. SO GOOD!

Best Rice Bowl! Amy's Teriyaki Bowl

    PER SERVING (one 9.5-oz. container): 290 calories, 4.5g fat, 780mg sodium, 52g carbs, 6g fiber, 15g sugars, 12g protein

Finding a frozen rice bowl that suits our needs isn't easy; the vegetables can't be soggy, the rice should be brown and not too huge in portion size (but also not pitifully meager), there shouldn't be way more sauce than anything else, etc. Amy's does it right! LOVE this bowl.

    Sugar Cookies
    1 medium-sized cookie = 193 calories, 8g fat, 160mg sodium, 24.5g carbs,
Though they may be the most basic in the cookie category, sugar cookies hold a place in many hearts. But, alas, a single cookie is still full of butter, sugar, and other carby calories. However, as long as it isn't loaded up with frosting, glaze, sprinkles, and more, it's not as bad a choice as some others on the list.
