  • Married? Your husband may add 7 hours of housework to your week

Blame the messy house on your husband (if you don't already). From Yahoo News:

"A new study from the University of Michigan shows that having a husband creates an extra seven hours of extra housework a week for women. But a wife saves her husband from an hour of chores around the house each week."

What!?!?!? Shouldn't a party of two entail less household responsibility? Apparently not:

"The researchers studied diaries to assess how people spent their time and questioned men and women about how much time they spend cooking, cleaning and doing basic work around the house.

They found that young single women did the least amount of housework, at about 12 hours a week. Married women in their 60 and 70s did nearly twice that amount, while women with more than three children spent 28 hours a week cleaning, cooking and washing."

Don't throw your messy roommate out yet though. Here's the silver lining: Per the San Francisco Chronicle, married people have more sex. Diiirrrtttty sex...

  • Kissing cousins: Is "Genetic Sexual Attraction" a real phenomenon?

Readers were shocked to hear about John and Jenny Deaves, the real-life Australian couple and father/daughter who had a child together. And as twisted as their partnership seems, it turns out that incest may be more common than you think due to a very real phenomenon described by scientists as GSA, or Genetic Sexual Attraction.

There have been many studies that show that humans are almost subconsciously drawn to mates with DNA makeup that is similar to their own:

"A new study by psychologists at the University of St Andrews shows that men and women are more likely to choose a spouse whose eye, skin and hair colour resembles that of their opposite-sex parent. Last year, a study by the same team revealed that women with older fathers, and men with older mothers, are usually attracted to older-looking partners. The same principle applies to racial characteristics, and to the smell of an opposite-sex parent. Although the reasons are unclear, one theory is that we are "imprinted" from

  • Married to the war: love in the time of Iraq

Recently, we marked the fifth anniversary of our invasion of Iraq. Four thousand American soldiers have given their lives. Troops are enduring 15 month tours of duty, and the violence shows no sign of letting up. It seems that many citizens are breathlessly awaiting the coming presidential election in hopes of change. What many people don't see is how this state is affecting the families and loved ones back home, and the soldiers who may be grasping at straws.

Here's a rather alarming (and heartbreaking) statistic: "Research shows that about 20 percent of marriages fall apart within two years when one spouse has been sent off to war."--The Telegraph And according to a recent article in The New York Times, skyrocketing divorce rates among military couples has persuaded the army to wage its own battle against breakups in the form of offering "marriage education" courses.

What is marriage education? It's really a slightly sugar-coated term for marriage counseling (therapists found that

  • Sex + politics = bestseller

    Harper CollinsHarper Collins

Attention Harlequin romance readers, there's a new erotic literature genre in town: While America can't stop reading about politicians and their behind closed doors sexual exploits, editor Stephen Elliot (author of My Girlfriend Comes to the City and Beats Me Up) , can't get enough of erotica inspired by politicians. Sex for America, a collection of sexy stories from great writers like Jerry Stahl and Jonathan Ames, takes its inspiration from the sordid lives of the political illuminati. In the words of this review:

"Sex and politics: they go together like peanut butter and jelly, or, more to the point, penises and KY jelly. Why there hasn't been a great politically-inspired erotica collection until now is anyone's guess, but here it is -- wonderfully weird, and erotic, and silly, and interesting and a little creepy in some ways (Dick Cheney in a love scene = nausea) but never boring. Oh no, never dull. It pulls down the pants of traditional erotica and gets down on its

  • Should the father/daughter incest couple be sterilized?

As if the news from the polygamy ranch in Texas isn't bad enough, there's another mind blowingly disturbing tale making the rounds today: An Australian couple, who recently gave birth to a baby daughter, are also father and daughter. A judge separated John, 61, and Jenny Deaves, 39, on incest charges, but currently, they're simply "being monitored." According to a report this morning in the Australian Broadcasting System, a high profile child advocate, Professor Freda Briggs of the University of South Australia, claims the couple should be sterilized to prevent them from bearing more children.

  • Prince Harry is engaged!

If British rag Now Magazine says it is so, then it must be so. Today they report that new favorite prince, Harry (not William!), just popped the question to 21-year old girlfriend Chelsy Davy. Don't expect a huge royal wedding anytime soon though. He's still serving overseas, and she's wrapping up post-grad work at Leeds University. Still, I'm vaguely excited...

Question: Heard of Estelle? Maybe you haven't yet, but her song "American Boy" featuring Kanye West and produced by is currently #1 in the UK Singles Chart, which means it's only a matter of time until she breaks out big over here. (Think Amy Winehouse, Lily Allen, them Brits are on a roll!) Not only does her song rule (hear it on her site), we have something in common with Estelle: Her new album is called "Shine." Cute name, eh?

Okay, second question: Ever heard of using a condom? Don't laugh. New research commissioned by The Body Shop and MTV revealed that seven out of 10 women under-25 "believe it is a man's job to provide contraceptives, while a third of women believe carrying a condom will mark them as being 'easy'."

How freakin' crazy is that? Guess all that public school sex ed is doing wonders, huh.

You've read the numbers on HPV, the epidemic that can cause cervical cancer in women. (Refresher: According to a recent NY Times report, one in four girls ages 14 to

  • Surviving the LDR

Anyone who's ever been involved in a long distance relationship can tell you that while each one is unique, a lot of the ups and downs can be similar. Here, one woman shares:

"It's a scenario many know all too well. Despite the teary goodbyes, lonely nights, flight delays, and outrageous phone bills, an estimated 14 million Americans are currently in LDRs, according to the Center for the Study of Long Distance Relationships. That number includes couples of all kinds, from those who fell for each other while living on opposite coasts to those who've been married for years but decided to live apart while she takes that plum international assignment or he goes back to school."

After one or two failed LDRs, I'm afraid I just don't cut the mustard. Have you endured a successful (or not so much) LDR?
