  • Woman Avoids Mirrors For A Year

How long do you think you could go without looking at yourself in the mirror? Kjerstin Gruys describes her 365 days mirror-free in her memoir "Mirror, Mirror Off The Wall: How I Learned to Love My Body By Not Looking At It For A Year."

It started about six months before her wedding, when she was shopping for wedding dresses. The more she shopped, the more critical of her body she became. Eventually, she thought 'I'm not headed in a direction I feel good about.'

So she decided to change her focus by giving up mirrors for a year. She covered up the mirrors in her house. At work, she knew exactly which bathroom stall to use so she could avoid catching herself in the mirror. She trusted friends to let her know when she had spinach in her teeth.

"But," Ali said, "you see yourself in reflections?"

"There's a difference between seeing and looking," Kjerstin replied, "That's a really important difference."

"Is there one physical trait that you're kinder to yourself about now?" Ali asked.

Lisa Rinna and Harry Hamlin have been married 15 years, but there was a recent moment that threatened their wedded bliss. When the opportunity to be on Bravo’s Real Housewives of Beverly Hills came up, he didn’t encourage her to accept. “He said to me, ‘over my dead body,’” she told Ali, “and, ‘I will divorce you.’”

Lisa won’t be doing the show, and her marriage is intact. The same can’t be said for her spot on this season of Celebrity Apprentice, from which she was just fired. “I was close,” she said. “Last woman standing and I’m very happy about that to be honest with you.”

And Lisa does have entrepreneurial experience, after all. She sells her Belle Gray by Lisa Rinna line on QVC.

Lisa says she really bonded her Apprentice co-star Penn Jillette, who advanced to the finals. But it was another cast member that Ali was curious about.

“Is Gary Busey as crazy as he seems?

  • “We don’t sparkle, we just kind of get over that.”

On this episode: Ali chats with Candice Accola who plays Caroline Forbes on The Vampire Diaries.

Ali’s first question, of course, was, “Who would win if the Vampire Diaries and the Twilight vampires went head to head?”

Candice is clearly Team Vampire Diaries, but not for the most obvious of reasons. “We don’t sparkle, we just kind of get over that.”

And after four seasons of being doused in fake blood, Candace has found a surprisingly effective stain remover. “Shaving cream. You leave it on for a couple of minutes and it washes right off. Even in your hair.”

Candice also talks to Ali about her days as a backup singer for Miley Cyrus, and her new boyfriend, Joe King from the band The Fray.

The Vampire Diaries season finale airs Thursday, May 16 on the CW, and to hear Candice’s predictions about what’s in store for her character next season, check out this episode of Daily Shot!

  • Sandra Bernhard On ‘Censored’ Roseanne Love Scene

Comedienne Sandra Bernhard is touring with her new one-woman show, “I Love Being Me, Don’t You?” But before she headed off to perform in San Francisco, she stopped by Daily Shot to tell Ali about her show, and how the landscape for women in comedy has changed.

Sandra talked about playing a gay character on Roseanne nearly two decades ago, when television was just starting to portray out gay people…within limits. She told Ali about a love scene she filmed at the time with actress Morgan Fairchild. “We were supposed to kiss on the show, under the mistletoe, but ABC at the time, the censors would only let us come this close and then…CUT! We couldn’t kiss!”

But Sandra wasn’t too disappointed because, “I didn’t really wanna kiss Morgan, she wasn’t my type.” So who WAS her type?

“I was in love with Victoria Principal.”

Ali then asked Sandra about her relationship with Jerry Lewis, her co-star from the 1983 movie, “The King of Comedy.” Lewis recently had some not-so-kind words about her at

  • New Relationship? Don’t Do This For 30 Days.

The advice that a woman shouldn’t sleep with a man on the first date may seem old-fashioned, but Dr. Wendy Walsh says it’s a notion that couldn’t be more modern. In fact, the author of “The 30-Day Love Detox,” says you should wait exactly that, 30 days.

“The truth is, you want them to leave in the first 30 days,” she told Ali. “It’s about getting rid of the ones who are not gonna fulfill you.”

She then dropped the stat that, if one hundred men, age 18-24, go on a first date on a Friday night, 20 percent of those dates will end in sex. Dr. Walsh said she still thinks that’s too high, but “what I hear from that is that 80 percent of women are smart enough to expose their eggs and their bloodstream to somebody they don’t trust.

“But,” Ali asked, “don’t you think sexual compatibility is important?”

Dr. Walsh replied that doesn’t think sexual chemistry is necessarily the biggest factor in a healthy, happy relationship. “One study of 2000 couples showed that the hotter the sexual

  • Guinea Pig Fashion Show!

A few weeks ago, we were reading the entire internet (as we do every day at Daily Shot) and we came upon the Cuddly Cavies Creations website. We showed it to Ali, who has two Guinea Pigs at home: life partners named Archie and Lenny.

We realized instantly that we needed to have a fashion show. So we called up Project Runway’s Tim Gunn and Supermodel Paulina Porizkova to see if they’d be willing to come by and judge. Much to our surprise, they were.

Cuddly Cavies Creations was gracious enough to provide couture for our evening wear, haberdashery, and swimsuit categories. And after carefully reading the safety and comfort instructions they sent, we gave Archie and Lenny a fitting to make sure they’d be ok with this whole crazy idea. They agreed to it as long as Ali would make their favorite kale salad.

The boys worked their look on the runway, but to see who really wowed the judges, check out today’s episode of Daily Shot! And to see the winner’s fashion spread, check out our Facebook

  • How Young Is Too Young To Marry?

Recently a Princeton alum wrote a controversial letter urging young Princeton women to find their husbands on campus, and fast. Ali invited her friend Lee Woodruff, author of ‘Those We Love Most,’ to talk about how young is too young for marriage.

Ali met her husband in her mid-thirties, and Lee met hers in her mid-twenties, they both agreed that men and women need to reach a certain level of maturity before they get married.

“When I think of the people I was dating in college,” Ali said, “I wouldn’t still be married today.”

“All those biker boys you were shacking up with? Not marriage material,” Lee agreed.

Then Ali accused Lee of cheating on her husband, and Lee shot back that she was cheating on her husband with Ali’s husband, but that’s not important.
