  • 'Teen Beach Movie' Actress on Overnight Fame

Maia Mitchell has only lived in U.S. for a year and a half, but she’s already making a name for herself as the star of ABC Family’s The Fosters and Disney's Teen Beach Movie.

The Australian starlet moved from the land down under to the U.S. when she was cast as surf girl McKenzie in Teen Beach Movie. But even though she’s far from home, she still maintains close ties to her country with her Australian roommate. “She keeps my accent in check,” Maia says about her roomie, who makes her check her American accent at the door.

Maia was also quick to dismiss some rumors for anyone who might be visiting her homeland. “Don’t hold a koala!” She warns. “They’re really vicious and have a really intense, obnoxious mating call. They’re not cuddly. It’s a myth.”

In her short time away from home, Maia has kept herself very busy. On The Fosters, she stars as Callie, a tough, off-beat teen who’s spent her entire life in the foster system.

  • Cell Phone Dangers: Myth vs Fact

Americans are more reliant on their smart phones and laptops than ever before, but many of us are unaware of the potential harm our favorite gadgets could cause.

“As a society, we have become so dependent on these devices,” Dr. Roshini Raj says, “But the truth is, we don’t know some of the long term effects.”

Dr. Raj says that while doctors have yet to pinpoint a correlation between cell phone use and brain cancer, neuroscientists researching the case believe a link does exist.

WATCH: Another Office Danger: Your Chair

It sounds like some scary stuff, but Dr. Raj has tips to avoid any harmful affects. First, don’t keep your phone in your pocket all day or anywhere too close to your body. Second, use speakerphone or a landline to restrict the amount time your cell is pressed against your head. Third, and most importantly, limit your child’s cell phone exposure.

“Children are particularly susceptible to any kind of radiation damage, increasing their cancer risk,” Dr. Raj says, “So for

  • Diet or Exercise: Which is the Key to Weight Loss?

Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi made headlines this past spring with her dramatic post-baby weight loss, and the guy behind it all is Anthony Michael, her personal trainer and owner of Express Home Fitness.

Anthony helped the Jersey Shore star lose over 40 pounds after the birth of baby Lorenzo. But it wasn’t all about exercise, Anthony says. The biggest thing is being willing to change your diet.

WATCH: Another Jersey Shore Star on Life After the Show

“A lot of people put more stress on exercise than diet, but in reality, diet is more important,” he says. “Abs are made in the kitchen, not in the gym.”

As much as people might want a quick fix for getting that six-pack, Anthony says there’s really no such thing. “The biggest misconception is that everyone thinks abdominal work like crunches are going to give you great abs,” he explains, “but that’s the farthest thing from the truth.” He added that instead of targeting a specific area, those getting in shape should focus on the body as a whole

  • Holland Taylor on Ann Richards, Tattoos, and Charlie Sheen

Over the course of her long career, Holland Taylor has played her share of complex, dynamic, and saucy women, but her most recent project was at true labor of love. She created, wrote, and starred in Ann, the Broadway show based on the late governor of Texas, Ann Richards.

    WATCH: Broadway Stage Secrets

“When Ann Richards died at just 73, I didn’t know her, but it had a big impact.” Four months after her death, Holland was driving to work at Two and a Half Men when the idea for the show came to her. “I had to pull over and the five principals of this play came to me in 15 minutes flat.”

While Holland tends to play women with big personalities, fans might not know the actress actively stays away from “too sweet” roles. “I don’t think it’s very real,” she says. “Sometimes you see scripts when there’s a mother who’s just a cliché warm, sweet mother. Well, I don’t know any of them, so I would not know how to do that.”

  • Nigel Lythgoe on Twerking and Prancing

As the executive producer and judge of Fox’s hit competition, So You Think You Can Dance Nigel Lythgoe sees world-class performances from nearly every style of dance. But, there are a few that still slightly catch him off-guard.

Ali asked Nigel about her new favorite style of dance, twerking. “There aren’t any ground rules set down yet,” he says about the new booty-bouncing dance craze. “Maybe I should study it?”

    WATCH: Ali Learns to Twerk

Nigel’s already embraced some other unique moves: prancercising. He appeared in a Funny or Die video aptly titled, So You Think You Can Prance wearing a pink sweater and revealing white tights. But we won’t be seeing the style on the show anytime soon. It’s just too easy. “There isn’t much to prancercising, in truth,” he says.

What viewers will see is better and better talent from all walks of life. Nigel is committed to giving children the chance to pursue their dance dreams, especially those who might not have the resources to do so. He’s looking

  • Dating DON'TS you should actually DO

Are you looking for love in all the wrong places? If you’re sticking to the “rules,” you just might be. Andrea Syrtash and Jeff Wilser are the authors of “It’s Okay to Sleep with Him on the First Date and Every Other Rule of Dating, Debunked,” and they say avoiding the people who are usually “off-limits” might actually hurt your dating life.

“Couples have broken all of these rules, so we want to shine light on the fact that it happens and sometimes it’s the best decision you can make,” Andrea says. “If you have a connection with someone and you don’t usually feel this way, pursue it.”

WATCH: Andrea & Jeff on More Dating Myths

Conventional wisdom may say to never date a co-worker, but the truth is 38% of the working world has dated someone in his or her office. Jeff says if you do it carefully, it can be worth the risk. “It’s less about not dating somebody at work, but rather how to do it well and not fall into bad traps.”

The authors also warn against dismissing a long-distance

  • Weird Ingredients or Tasty Treats?

You know Curtis Stone and Gail Simmons as the host and head critic of Bravo’s Top Chef Masters, where they put some of the world’s best chefs to the test with boundary-pushing challenges every week. All that taste testing might seem like an easy gig, but the pair stopped by Daily Shot to prove they can still think on their feet.

Ali turned the tables on the stars to see what they would make with some slightly crazy ingredient pairs. First up, anchovies and beef jerky. “I would do a Thai dried beef salad with an anchovy dressing, chilies, fried shallots, and some other vegetables,” Gail says.

What about ghost chilies and pistachios? “You could make a nice compound butter,” Curtis says. “Soften the butter to room temperature, add just a tiny bit of ghost chili, pistachio nuts throughout, maybe some cilantro, and serve a slice of that over some beautiful fish or vegetables.”

Quick thinking is something viewers can expect on the new season

  • The Surgery-Free Facelift

Everyone wants to look younger, but did you ever think you could use yoga to make your wrinkles disappear? For Annelise Hagen, a yoga instructor and the author of “The Yoga Face,” the journey was something personal.

“When I hit a certain point in my life, my face started to fall,” she says. “I couldn’t believe it, and I thought ‘why not use yoga to lift my face the way it lifted my butt and my arms and everything else?’”

She designed a program using exercise principles to help lift and tone the muscles in the face, and before long, she was selling out every class. Now, she’s releasing a DVD to expose people all over the country to the latest techniques.

  • Nick & Mariah's Biggest Parenting Disagreement

“I definitely want my children to go to public schools, my wife is on the fence about it.”

Cannon says he wants to establish as much normalcy as possible for his children, while Mariah is more concerned about safety.

Nick’s argument to that is: “Private school’s got the craziest kids anyway! They have the most access to drugs and weapons!”

WATCH: Hollywood Parents Who Got It Right

Plus, he adds, “You don’t get to go to ‘private adult life.’"

What else does the power couple fight about? “Everything!” Nick says, matter-of-factly. “I’m messy, I get in trouble for my interviews…and then I don’t pick up my underwear.” He then goes into further detail with Ali about the interview that made Mariah the angriest.
