  • What's buzzing on Shine: Fashion Week recap

New York Fashion Week wraps today so we’re recapping the hot topics that our viewers are talking about from the industry's biannual event. We start with Katie Holmes debuting her Spring 2013 line Holmes & Yang. What do you think of the looks from her collection? On the trends side, metallic shoes are hot -- Christian Siriano showcased his Christian Siriano for Payless metallic lace-ups in pink. And Rachel Comey highlighted her mirrored blue sandals (which, matter of fact, Shine Senior Fashion Editor Joanna Douglas is dying to get her hands on!). Last but certainly not least, we'd be remiss not to mention the age-defying runway model, Ms. Carmen Dell’Orefice, the oldest model at Fashion Week. And as Shine Senior Editor Piper Weiss points out: “She’s also the best.” Well said, Piper.

In this episode, The Shine's Host Allison Task is wearing: Dress by Alice and Olivia, Ring and earrings by Ann Taylor, and Boots by Plenty Tracy Reese

  • Why a little black dress doesn't work for everyone

Not every woman needs a little black dress. Sounds backwards, right? Not according to Emmy award-winning designer and author of “Color Your Style” David Zyla. David is all about finding “your version of black” when it comes to the best dress color for you. He’s an advocate of other neutrals, like midnight blue and espresso brown, that can have the same figure-flattering abilities as the color black. Here more about David’s philosophy on the classic LBD on today’s episode of “The Shine”.

Did this get you to thinking more about your own wardrobe?  Check out a pre-fall trend we’re eying: the sheath dress.

  • 7 celebs who need a fashion makeover

Great style and celebrities don’t always go hand in hand. Stars may have the means to enlist top wardrobe stylists, but that doesn’t guarantee a fabulous, pulled together look. We enlisted the help of Phillip Bloch, widely considered to be one of Hollywood’s premiere fashion stylists, whose roster of clients include the likes of Halle Berry, Drew Barrymore, Sandra Bullock, Mariah Carey...need we say more. Phillip takes a critical view at some of the biggest stars who he feels are in need of a fashion makeover. Bloch says that some celebrities simply show too much – be it cleavage, legs, skin – sometimes, less is more. From pop stars Christina Aguilera and Mariah Carey to the Real Housewives, Bloch reveals who needs a style makeover and what these ladies can do to improve their style. Plus, Phillip’s suggestion of the three style staples every woman should own this fall.

  • The Shine: Does Ann Romney need a style makeover?

Every politician's spouse is scrutinized once he or she steps onto the national stage, and Ann Romney, wife of Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, is next to come under the lens. In the months leading up to the election, what Mrs. Romney wears will be examined as much as what she says. So far, we've seen her wearing everything from bold patterns to form fitting sheaths, but a clear style has not yet emerged. We wondered: Does Ann Romney need a fashion makeover?  “The Shine” sat down with stylist-to-the-stars Robert Verdi to find out.

  • The Shine: "Man-gagement rings" on the rise

What if the tables were turned, and women-- instead of men— got down on one knee and asked their significant others to marry? (We'll go out on a limb and guess that not many women would be thrilled with this idea.) However, this role reversal is happening more than you’d think, and, "man-gagement rings" are on the rise, among many other out-of-the-box ideas to help couples say, 'I do!' To dish on today’s extreme wedding trends is site director of the popular, Anja Winikka.

  • The Shine: When did size 6 become "plus size?"

Is size six the new plus size? It can be if you're a model. Twenty years ago, the average model was eight percent smaller than the average American woman -but today, models are 23 percent tinier than the rest of us. Want proof? According to Denise Bidot, a popular plus-size model and recent cover girl, size-six women often model what are supposed to be size-14 samples for plus-size catalogs. Bidot sat down with "The Shine" to talk about this heated topic and how she wants women to believe that when it comes to their bodies, it's all about being the size that's healthy for YOU, not what the fashion and advertising worlds expect you to be.
