If you remember back to last month, I told you guys that I was in the process of growing out my relaxed hair . I've discovered some awesome things about my natural hair growing in. I've also had some growing pains too. My new growth was completely rebelling against every product that I've used for years. My hair was either way too dry or way too greasy. My scalp went from never having an issue to being dry, extremely irritated, and even worse - flaky! It was so bad I was washing my hair every two days because it looked and felt like I hadn't washed it in months. Ugh, it left me so frustrated I wanted to just shave my hair off and starting over! After scouring the internet and reading sites like Curly Nikki religiously, I realized my hair was reacting to the many chemicals my old hair products had in them. I consulted with my awesome hairstylist and he confirmed my suspicions. I had to stay away from products that had sulfates, alcohol, petroleum, and mineral oil. Natural

  • Beauty Guru Review: Body Butter Strawberry Smoother by SoftSoap

Strawberry%20Smoother.jpeg[1]Strawberry%20Smoother.jpeg[1]We are all anxious to start breaking out those shorts, showing off our pedicured toes, and baring those arms. One thing we have to make sure of before our skin is ready to bared so this month's assignment was right on time! We're reviewing the Body Butter Strawberry Smoother by SoftSoap, a body buffer body wash with strawberry and jojaba extracts for moisturized skin and exfoliators to keep it smooth. If this body wash is as good as their Body Butter Mega Moisture Heavenly Vanilla , I'd be too excited!

After using it for a few weeks, one of the first things I liked was the scent. It smells just as yummy a it sounds, though you don't come out of the shower smelling like candy though (which is a good thing for me!). The body wash itself looks like a strawberry smoothie with the little exfoliating beads looking like little strawberry seeds! It's thick and creamy too, giving a really nice lather. It leaves my skin soft but I haven't seen a really noticeable difference in its

  • Beauty Guru post: 30 Items + 30 Days = An Awesome Fashion Challenge

Last month I decided to to join the scores of other fashion bloggers in the 30×30 fashion challenge hosted by Kendi Everyday! If you haven't heard about this challenge before, it's real simple: you pick 30 items of clothing (including shoes and outer wear) and your job is to create 30 outfits just using those pieces (that means no shopping for month either! Tough I know!). The whole gist of this fashion challenge is to learn how to get creative, how to shop your closet, and how you can really work with what you already have. I joined because I wanted to step up my fashionista game without spending a fortune doing so! I had a full closet full of clothes and yet I found myself wearing the same types of clothing day in and day out. I'll be honest, I didn't know if I was going to make it all the way but I did and I've learned quite a bit!

For the complete scoop, check out Kendi's blog.

Here's a recap of my 30 outfits along with the 30 things I learned from doing this challenge!

  • Beauty Guru post: The DIANE Vintage Collection from DVF

What do you get when a well known designer has a fashion flashback?

You get the DIANE Vintage Collection from D. von Furstenberg herself! Drawing inspiration from the vintage prints and shapes that made her famous in the seventies, she gave her old designs new life with this new collection. Making it's debut last month it came right in time for Spring - where the seventies are already making a fierce comeback! (I give a personal shoutout to the wide leg pants!) From the prints to the colors, her pieces are just so much fun while keeping to classic silouhettes. I'm also glad to see the wrap dress back on the scene because they are soo curvy girl friendly, which is always a plus for me! The accessories are also in on the fun, with super cute clutches and wide brim hats that are so season worthy!

    What do you ladies think?

  • Beauty Review: The Essence Collection by David Yurman

    David Yurman Essence CollectionDY EssenceCollection_FINAL

If you remember awhile back I got the opportunity to review this beauty powder from David Yurman and I was a bit impressed, especially to see a jeweler stepping into the beauty realm. If you're not familiar with Yurman, he is the mastermind behind the iconic cable bracelet. He made his mark in the jewelry world and he seems to be a contender on the beauty side of things.

For this review, I got to test out the Essence Collection, a trio of fragrances that launched just in time for spring. You can either wear these scents alone, or do a cool mix and match to create your own signature scent. So, here's the breakdown of each one.

    Delicate Essence

This fragrance has notes of pink pepper, lotus blossom and sparkling orange. I wore this scent the most out of three, because it was perfect to wear to work. I could smell the sparkling orange, which gives this one this special little twang to it that I liked without being overpowering.

  • User Post: How to Balance Blogging, Writing, and A Thing Called Life

As a girl who holds down a full time job, writes for three blogs, and working on my first fantasy novel, I know all too well how it feels trying to manage it all along with a thing called life - which for me includes my husband of ten months and my super close family and friends. Though I'm not an expert or even have it all together all of the time, I have learned a thing or two about time management (and time outs!) since I've been maintaining this crazy writing lifestyle!

    Blogging

Two words - Editorial Calendar. This is an absolute life saver for a blogger. I started using it for my first blog and it quickly became a staple for managing all the blog writing I do. Though I just upgraded to this fancy one, a simple notebook will do! When a sudden influx of awesome cool ideas hit you, write them and down and give them a day that you want it to go on your blog. Now once you have your week, month, (or year if you're really good!) mapped out, you can block out a chunk

  • Paula Begoun’s 10 Makeup Commandments

Makeup is definitely one of my vices and one I really don't want to seek help with anytime soon! So with that said, I'm always looking for advice on how to shop and test the latest cosmetics! To help us with that, I have Paula Begoun on board, who has helped us in the past with how to keep our skin clear and healthy as well on how to find the right foundation for our skin type. Here are her ten makeup commandments to abide by when shopping for makeup!

    1. Expensive Doesn't Mean Better! There are good and bad products in all price categories, and there are brilliant inexpensive products you should absolutely consider before going for the expensive stuff.
    2. Shop With A Clean Slate! If you plan to test foundation or concealer, visit the store or salon with a clean, bare face that's prepped for makeup application, or be willing to take off the makeup you have on.
    3. The Right Light is Key! Always check foundation, concealer and powder colors in natural light.

  • Fierce Interview: Reese Witherspoon and The Avon Foundation

One of the foundations I always love keeping up with is the Avon Foundation. I totally enjoy working with them for International Women's Day as well as help support their campaigns to end Violence Against Women and spread the word on Breast Cancer Awareness . I'm also a fan of their spokesperson, Reese Witherspoon, who is always doing big things with Avon! Earlier this month, she was in Atlanta to kick off the Believe Global Tour, with the goal to continue empowering women all over the world. Though I couldn't personally attend, Reese was awesome enough to tape a video response to my question:

What are your New Year's Resolutions as an Avon Global Ambassador?

    How cool was that!! :)

  • Shine Beauty Guru Review: Sumptuous Extreme Lash Multiplying Volume Mascara by Estee Lauder

Mascara ranks one of the beauty must haves of even the makeup minimalist and when you find a good one that delivers on its promises you hold onto it for dear life! Coincidentally I just ran out of one of my fav mascaras so this review came just in time! Our beauty guru assignment this month was to review the Sumptuous Extreme Lash Multiplying Volume Mascara by Estee Lauder. This mascara claims to deliver big and bold lashes with the first application, with a lightweight Extreme Bold Formula, a special blend of lash building fibers, and their exclusive Extreme Brush Comber. Housed in a beautiful gold tube with black script, it's definitely the prettiest tube of mascara I've seen! With all of this going on, this mascara is sure to deliver right? Well, after wearing it faithfully for a few weeks, here's my verdict:

I like it! I like it!

I definitely saw the difference in my lashes and it looked amazing! My eyes really looked bold, my lashes really making a statement, which I
