Jessica Alba and Kate Bosworth rock the donut bun
Just last fall, top knots became the rage in the high-fashion scene. But another hairstyle is already stealing the spotlight: the donut bun. Unlike traditional buns, which are created when you wrap hair around the ponytail, this perfectly coiled look is best achieved with the help of inexpensive foam pieces, which are shaped like-you guessed it-a donut.
Here's how it works:
- Pull hair back into a ponytail and secure it with a rubber band.
- Pull the pony through foam donut hole until it comfortably sits on the head. You can secure it with bobby pins if it feels loose.
- Separate hair into 4 equal sections, and spread them across the donut, until it's completely covered. Wrap and tuck the ends under the foam and pin them down.
- Spray with hairspray to tame flyaways and set your style.

Gemini (May 21 - June 21)
It doesn't matter if it's rainy, foggy or overcast -- as long as it's daylight, UV rays can cause potential damage to your skin. And most aging comes from everyday exposure -- so break out the SPF and
When the weather outside is frightful, the frigid air has very low levels of water content. That's what dries out your skin. Ironically though, the fire inside only seems delightful. Your crackling Yule log combined with normal indoor heating will further deplete your thirsty epidermis of the fluids it needs to stay soft and supple. Add to all of that the fact that aging skin is thinner, less elastic, and more prone to moisture loss than it once was, and you can see that you need an action plan to ensure that you don't end up looking scaly - or worse, getting cracks that could lead to infections. Here's the drill:
Invest in a humidifier. Portable varieties start in the $30 range. The lower cost models are perfectly adequate. You can also get desktop versions to keep you hydrated while you're at work. Caveat: Clean the device often to get rid of bacteria and fungi that can collect.Read More »from No More Itchy, Flaky Winter Skin!

I was shopping for a new hair dryer and noticed that there is a wide price range ($20-$250) as well as some pretty bold claims being made by these products. In particular, I noticed many of the more expensive hair dryers (and flat irons) are labeled "ionic." The listed benefits of "ionic" ranged from "helps hair dry faster" to "makes hair shinier" and even "makes hair healthier." It's not often that you see "hair dryer" and "healthy" in the same sentence so I decided I needed to do a little research to help decipher some of these claims.Read More »from How Do Ionic Hair Dryers Work?

What does ionic really mean?
An ion is a charged component that a chemical can be broken down into that can have a negative or positive charge. Your hair has both negative and positively charged places on it, which helps certain hair care products work better and the water in wet hair is positive; ionic dryers that emit negative ions cause globs of H2O molecules to divide into smaller particles that evaporate
We all know the benefits of exfoliating our skin - it helps remove dead skin cells and leaves skin feeling smoother and softer. But do we need to exfoliate our hair too? Some products out there are suggesting that we need to add this to our beauty routine but I wanted to investigate further before I added another step to my hair care ritual!Read More »from Do You Need to Exfoliate Your Hair?

What is a hair exfoliator?
Hair exfoliators are simply a hair conditioner that contain some kind of scrubbing element like sugar, salt or beads (just like you would find in a facial scrub). These type of products claim to gently remove impurities and buildup while restoring the shine and health back to your hair.

Do they work?
The idea of removing impurities and buildup from your hair is not a bad one, especially if you use lots of styling products (particularly those containing silicone). However, scrubbing particles are not the most efficient way to remove product
