Spend more time with your honey and less time with your boss, according to a new study, "Just a Perfect Day: Developing a Happiness Optimized Day Schedule," published in the most recent issue of the Journal of Economic Psychology.
What makes a 'perfect day'?
Inspired in part by musician Lou Reed's song "Perfect Day," researchers crunched data collected from over 900 employed women. Their goal: to find out what combination of activities engaged in for how long each day would produce the greatest well being. They found that women reported being happiest when they spent the least amount of time commuting and working and the most amount of time being close to their romantic partner or hanging out with friends.

1. Going from Night Owl to Early Bird
Who says bedtime is just for kids? Take extra care to maintain your sleep schedule, especially on the weekends. The body responds to routine. If your bedtime is sporadic- 11 pm some nights, 1 a.m. others- your mind won't be properly prepared to snooze on the weekdays.
Now that's a bed we could sleep in!
2. Bringing Books to Bed
Reading before bed is a habit for many. Problem is, your body has likely adapted to that routine-it won't go to sleep until you've logged a couple chapters. Retreat to a comfy couch or window nook instead for your literary fix. The bed should be off limits for anything other than sleep or sex.

I just turned 60 years old and well-meaning friends and colleagues have said to me, "Great! Sixty is the new forty." What is this supposed to mean? Should I find that comforting? Maybe feel less close to life's end? Younger? I don't really know, but I do know that I don't agree. At all.
Sixty is quite different. My husband and I have lived in a mostly empty nest for several years now; our "kids" are lovely, independent adults. Still wonderful, potty trained and quite verbal, I am grateful and proud to report that they are pretty much my favorite people on Earth. But I also enjoy our quieter home, the ability to eat whatever and whenever my husband and I want, to work late and to go out often without worrying about the children. I feel good, and I have a husband, friends, family and work I love. Leisure time is, at long last, often actually leisurely. At 60, life is pretty good.
