Don't do anything spontaneous today; you need to be as plodding and methodical as you can possibly stand to be. There's no room in your day for surprises or changes in plans. Slow and steady wins the race, Aries.

Monday: Look at the Big Picture

Most of us have at least four accounts (savings, checking, a joint account and PayPal, for instance). Researchers at the University of Utah found that when funds flowed in and out of just one place, the study's spenders found it easier keep track of their bottom-line net worth. The result: They spent 10 percent less of their money.

The next best thing to having a single account is an all-on-one-page overview. For this, check out Mint.com, an app that aggregates all your financial information (daily) and displays it in a colorful interface--helping you track spending patterns. Extra bonus: It's free.

  • Cash as a baby giftBy A.J. Jacobs

Or is it basically prostitution? A.J. Jacobs decides, in his latest column.

"Some close friends announced they are having a baby. This is great news, except they also announced they don't want gifts and would prefer cash instead! What's the protocol here? Am I obligated to give them money for having a baby, and if so, how much? They're financially stable, so it's not that they're in dire need of money." -Rachel, Ohio

Rachel, your friends can rest assured that they have made a perfectly reasonable request.

Either that, or they should just put on zebra-skin bustiers and red pumps and go spend their days working a corner in the Tenderloin in San Francisco, because they are dirty, dirty hookers.

Let's start with the latter opinion, since it's a lot more fun.

That said, it's not an easy gig some days, and it makes sense to me that a person who can do math well enough to teach it would get sick of misbehavior in his class. I completely understand the college math professor who opted to threaten his students with a fate worse than detention if they didn't behave. He threatened them with Game of Thrones spoilers instead. He had read all of the books, he said, and if they didn't behave, he was going to give them one death they may or may not know about from the series, until they straightened up.

"Well. Know that I have read all of the books, and from now on when there will be too much noise, I write the name of the next death in Table I. Enough to hold all year, and I can even describe each death."

  • Ever since the Mary Poppins 50th Anniversary Edition came out on Blu-Ray and DVD, we've been watching what is obviously an iconic classic over and over again. The repeat button has arguably become the most popular button on our remote, as we're all perfectly happy to do nothing more than romp through the Edwardian Britishness that is Number Seventeen, Cherry Tree Lane, and the magical nanny that comes with it. Then, while watching it for the eleventieth time, it occurred to me that Mary Poppins is totally a Dr. Who Time Lord. Secretly, of course. She might even be The Doctor in some kind of regeneration that hasn't even been documented. And had Matt Smith not already returned as Peter Capaldi, I'd be half expecting to see a glimpse of Julie Andrews' dreamy peaches-and-cream visage somewhere in there. Think about it. Because it's completely plausible mainly because of these 9 truths. -By Pilar Clark

Do you work with a droopy, depressed colleague? Not only are they dragging themselves (and others) down, but they're making you feel guilty for being cheerful -- all while they infect your work environment with their negativity. How can you help make their outlook more optimistic? Well, that depends on their Sun sign.

The ones who'll benefit most from a little positive attention are definitely Cancer and Taurus. Cancer is highly sensitive and may have taken something the wrong way -- or perhaps they're just feeling underappreciated. Taurus needs regular tactile contact, or else they'll start to feel downtrodden. Offer them some extra friendliness and bring them an extra bagel from the kitchen, and they'll surely brighten up.

Gemini may just be having a down day, and since they never stay the same way for long, they'll come around soon enough. The same goes for Aquarius, as what usually gets them back on track is some entertaining tidbit of information. If they can keep their brain
