• On this episode: Ali chats with Candice Accola who plays Caroline Forbes on The Vampire Diaries.

Ali’s first question, of course, was, “Who would win if the Vampire Diaries and the Twilight vampires went head to head?”

Candice is clearly Team Vampire Diaries, but not for the most obvious of reasons. “We don’t sparkle, we just kind of get over that.”

And after four seasons of being doused in fake blood, Candace has found a surprisingly effective stain remover. “Shaving cream. You leave it on for a couple of minutes and it washes right off. Even in your hair.”

Candice also talks to Ali about her days as a backup singer for Miley Cyrus, and her new boyfriend, Joe King from the band The Fray.

The Vampire Diaries season finale airs Thursday, May 16 on the CW, and to hear Candice’s predictions about what’s in store for her character next season, check out this episode of Daily Shot!

  • Comedienne Sandra Bernhard is touring with her new one-woman show, “I Love Being Me, Don’t You?” But before she headed off to perform in San Francisco, she stopped by Daily Shot to tell Ali about her show, and how the landscape for women in comedy has changed.

Sandra talked about playing a gay character on Roseanne nearly two decades ago, when television was just starting to portray out gay people…within limits. She told Ali about a love scene she filmed at the time with actress Morgan Fairchild. “We were supposed to kiss on the show, under the mistletoe, but ABC at the time, the censors would only let us come this close and then…CUT! We couldn’t kiss!”

But Sandra wasn’t too disappointed because, “I didn’t really wanna kiss Morgan, she wasn’t my type.” So who WAS her type?

“I was in love with Victoria Principal.”

Ali then asked Sandra about her relationship with Jerry Lewis, her co-star from the 1983 movie, “The King of Comedy.” Lewis recently had some not-so-kind words about her at

  • The advice that a woman shouldn’t sleep with a man on the first date may seem old-fashioned, but Dr. Wendy Walsh says it’s a notion that couldn’t be more modern. In fact, the author of “The 30-Day Love Detox,” says you should wait exactly that, 30 days.

“The truth is, you want them to leave in the first 30 days,” she told Ali. “It’s about getting rid of the ones who are not gonna fulfill you.”

She then dropped the stat that, if one hundred men, age 18-24, go on a first date on a Friday night, 20 percent of those dates will end in sex. Dr. Walsh said she still thinks that’s too high, but “what I hear from that is that 80 percent of women are smart enough to expose their eggs and their bloodstream to somebody they don’t trust.

“But,” Ali asked, “don’t you think sexual compatibility is important?”

Dr. Walsh replied that doesn’t think sexual chemistry is necessarily the biggest factor in a healthy, happy relationship. “One study of 2000 couples showed that the hotter the sexual chemist

  • A few weeks ago, we were reading the entire internet (as we do every day at Daily Shot) and we came upon the Cuddly Cavies Creations website. We showed it to Ali, who has two Guinea Pigs at home: life partners named Archie and Lenny.

We realized instantly that we needed to have a fashion show. So we called up Project Runway’s Tim Gunn and Supermodel Paulina Porizkova to see if they’d be willing to come by and judge. Much to our surprise, they were.

Cuddly Cavies Creations was gracious enough to provide couture for our evening wear, haberdashery, and swimsuit categories. And after carefully reading the safety and comfort instructions they sent, we gave Archie and Lenny a fitting to make sure they’d be ok with this whole crazy idea. They agreed to it as long as Ali would make their favorite kale salad.

The boys worked their look on the runway, but to see who really wowed the judges, check out today’s episode of Daily Shot! And to see the winner’s fashion spread, check out our Facebook
