Ali Learns to Twerk

We’ve heard a lot this week about the Miley Cyrus video where she’s dancing around in unicorn onezie.

Now, the dance she’s doing is called ‘twerking,’ which is a new word for a lot of people. But it’s not a new dance—by some accounts, the term came out of southern rap in the mid-nineties, and the dance started popping up in music videos in the early 2000s.

Different people argue about who, exactly, coined the term and where the dance was first performed. But if this is the first you’re hearing about it, you should know Miley’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to twerking. The genre already has it’s superstars, such as the two Atlanta women called the Twerk Team, whose online videos showcase some expert-level, gravity-defying moves. (Parental discretion advised.)

Here at Daily Shot, we decided that Ali could give Miley Cyrus a run for her money, so we called Rhythm City from America's Best Dance Crew. Director, Alonzo Williams, said he knew just the girls to help Ali out. Jullisa and Julleah Bond, twin sisters in Rhythm City who have been in a Beyonce music video, showed up to the studio with their boots laced up and booty poppin' pants on, ready to get down to business.  They were patient, they were supportive, but did they produce the next internet twerking star? Watch the video to find out.
