Diet or Exercise: Which is the Key to Weight Loss?

Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi made headlines this past spring with her dramatic post-baby weight loss, and the guy behind it all is Anthony Michael, her personal trainer and owner of Express Home Fitness.

Anthony helped the Jersey Shore star lose over 40 pounds after the birth of baby Lorenzo. But it wasn’t all about exercise, Anthony says. The biggest thing is being willing to change your diet.

“A lot of people put more stress on exercise than diet, but in reality, diet is more important,” he says. “Abs are made in the kitchen, not in the gym.”

As much as people might want a quick fix for getting that six-pack, Anthony says there’s really no such thing. “The biggest misconception is that everyone thinks abdominal work like crunches are going to give you great abs,” he explains, “but that’s the farthest thing from the truth.” He added that instead of targeting a specific area, those getting in shape should focus on the body as a whole because “you can’t spot reduce. Fat comes off in layers.”

Instead, Anthony recommends quick fiber twitch simulation, or “fast movements that burn a lot of calories in a short period of time.” He showed Ali an easy lunge combination that someone could do at their desk.
