Makeup Myths That Are Costing You Money

One of the biggest myths about makeup is that it causes breakouts, says lifestyle expert Justine Santaniello. "It's not the makeup that's causing breakouts. It's how we're using the makeup, like when we fall asleep with our makeup on, that is a big no-no. That's what's clogging our pores and causing those breakouts and blemishes."

What you don't know about makeup is also costing you money. For instance, you don't have to use store-bought makeup remover — you can use an easy-to-mix, inexpensive home recipe. Justine recommends mixing equal parts witch hazel and olive oil. "The witch hazel has astringent properties, and then the olive oil has moisturizing properties."

Something else you don't have to go to the store for? A special shampoo to treat dandruff. "Usually those shampoos have a lot of harsh chemicals in there that you don't want to be using on your scalp and hair," says Justine. "Aloe is actually a really great remedy." She recommends massaging aloe vera gel into your hair and leaving it on for about half an hour before rinsing.
