Martial Arts Prodigy’s Self-Defense Advice

Leo Howard, 15-year-old star of the Disney XD comedy, Kickin’ It, is no stranger to hard work and discipline. He started studying karate at age four, and won three martial arts world championships by the time he was eight.

But what surprised us at Daily Shot was what a gentleman he was. He called all the women ‘ma’am,’ all the men, ‘sir,’ and took the time to give some karate pointers to Ali’s 10-year-old daughter Elliot.

Leo started off our interview by teaching Ali the ‘Tornado Kick,’ a spinning roundhouse kick that she sorta kinda managed to learn. But she wanted to get to the more basic survival moves, like what to do if someone tries to steal her purse.

He first recommended a solid knee to the groin, but then he got practical. “Me, as a martial artist, like if someone was robbing me? I’d probably run.”

To hear Leo explain how martial arts help him every day, and to see his expert version of the Tornado Kick, check out this episode of Daily Shot.
