Could We Have Just Uncovered the Mystery Person Behind These Massive Restaurant Tips?

An anonymous do-gooder has been leaving tips of up to $10,000 for no apparent reason other than to pay it forward - and he may have just been uncovered!

During the last three months alone, the clandestine benefactor has left a total of at least $54,000 in tips to servers - ranging from $500 to $10,000 - across multiple states. He signs his receipts "@tipsforjesus," and pays with a black American Express card.

Photos of dozens of happy servers and their receipts featuring an unbelievable gratuity fill the Instagram page Tipsforjesus. The page's message is summed up in one statement: "Doing the Lord's work, one tip at a time."

This wealthy pub crawler typically dines with an entourage, and the benevolent group sure likes to wine and dine. One receipt shows the party spending $2,979.42 on liquor alone. The tip for their server? Ten grand!

The amount of their bill doesn't relate to the size of the tip - on a bill of $84.05 at Legends of Notre Dame restaurant, $5,000 was added for gratuity.

It's been rumored that this mystery man is Jack Selby, founder and former Vice President of PayPal. Selby certainly has the means to be leaving such generous tips - the 39-year-old is a multi-millionaire, and he owns homes in all the states where tips were received. He also shared a news story on "Tipsforjesus" on his personal Facebook page, with a few friends playing coy about the extreme tipper's identity.

"Do we win if we know whom is behind tipsforjesus?" writes one commenter.

Since Selby has yet to confirm that he's the man behind Tipsforjesus, the mystery continues. What we do know is that there are plenty of workers in the service industry who are having an extremely happy holiday season.
