This Dog Knows the Joys of Adopting an Animal

Lily is a 10-year-old Akita who spent her life as a guard dog protecting her family's store. A career gal, the pooch never had puppies of her own, but her maternal instinct kicked in the moment she met a 2-week old kitten that desperately needed a mom.

Lily's owner, Lorrie R., tells KittyArmy.com that she was recently taking Lily for a walk in a heavily wooded park behind a train station near their home in south Florida. Unfortunately, this particular park has become a common spot for people to abandon their pets.

One day, Lily began sniffing around the bushes and discovered a 2-week-old kitten left all alone. Lorrie took the poor kitty to the Humane Society for help, but was told that the feline would be put down if left there, since the kitten wasn't weaned. If Lorrie would hand-feed the animal for a month, she could return and they would then try and place the kitten in a home.

Looking after the kitten's best interests, Lorrie brought her home -- though she was worried about how Lily would interact with a cat. "I brought her home thinking it was going to be a very long month keeping them apart and safe," she says.

"Much to my surprise, Lily has adopted the kitten! [She] comes and gets me when she needs to be fed and watches to make sure I do it right!"

"They seem to be doing very well together," says Lorrie. "I think Lily wants to keep her and I think in a months time she may get her wish!"

We're so happy this adorable interspecies family found each other!
