Ellen Meets an Amazing Animal Rescue Team

Ellen had to meet the group of heroes responsible for saving a dog from a frozen river.

A few weeks ago, Crosby, a 5-year-old golden retriever, chased a squirrel onto the frozen Charles river in Massachusetts and fell through the ice about 50 yards from shore. The dog's frantic owner called 911 for help, and rescue workers Jim, Joan, Paul and Dave from the Wellesley Fire Department rushed onto the scene -- and into the freezing water -- to save the poor animal.

"Our job is to protect life and property, and it doesn't matter if that life is an animal life or a human life," said Joan after the team's interview with Ellen, where they were gifted custom-made life preservers... as well as an all-expenses-paid cruise to the Caribbean!
