Family Surprised with a New Ride from Ellen

When Aushna Shepherd wrote to the show about her inspiring son Alex, Ellen knew she wanted to meet him and help his family in any way she could.

Last April, the 11-year-old was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer and was given just a few years to live. Alex remains positive and believes that he can still accomplish anything despite this challenge.

He watches "Ellen" every day with his mother at Portland's Children's Hospital, a five-hour drive from their home in Ashland, OR. Alex's Make-a-Wish dream was to meet the host in person. When he finally did, he couldn't believe the surprises in store for him and his family!

Not only did they receive a $10,000 check from Shutterfly to help pay for Alex's medical bills, the family was given a brand new car to make the drive to the hospital a little more enjoyable.

See what Alex and his family had to say about meeting Ellen and how these generous gifts will really make an impact on their lives.
