Katy Perry Gives Ellen Details on Her Relationship with John Mayer
After catching up on music, Grammy nods, and that famous cleavage shot with Ellen and Portia, Katy Perry opened up on her relationship with boyfriend John Mayer. The multi-talented couple just released a duet and music video together titled, "Who You Love," and they've been performing the single around the country.
"We have a lot of fun," Katy told Ellen. "We have music as an understanding and love between each other." She added, "After a long day, if it's been tough, I don't really have to go into it."
Katy and John have been together for over a year now, with some time apart in the middle. Their new video portrays the wild ride a relationship can be, and the importance of always getting back on the horse. When asked about how she and John make it work, Katy said they have been finding their rhythm, and make a good match based on mutual understanding and common goals.
"When there's two people involved, someone other than yourself, you have to find a compromise in a good way. There's a lot of respect," she remarked.
During Mayer's recent vocal cord surgery, the two communicated via iPad because he had to be completely silent.
"I really understood that, I understood that he couldn't talk," the pop star commented. "Some days, I have to go on complete vocal rest, no whispering - whispering is actually really bad… there's just a lot of silence in our house."
"That's nice," Ellen replied. "You could play Pictionary!"
Katy and John will be celebrating Christmas together this year, and among other things, the "Prism" singer says her beau helps draft her tweets. John, on the other hand, prefers Instagram, but Katy says she doesn't assist him at all. Nor is she interested in the social platform, given she has over 48 million Twitter followers.
The singer joked, "Why should I rule both Instagram and Twitter?"
