A Real Christmas Miracle!
Santa arrives via chimney. Reindeer fly. Elves rappel down the sides of buildings. At least that was the drill at the Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health!
This week, as a holiday surprise for young patients, a handful of elves descended 10 stories across the windows of the Simon Family Tower of the hospital, waving to little ones who definitely did not expect them.
Meanwhile, the boss man also came through, delivering toys room to room to children on every floor of the hospital.
"Many of our patients can't be home for the holidays," said Melissa Sexton, Riley at IU Health special events coordinator in a press release. "Our goal is to bring children every ounce of normalcy possible while hospitalized. This is just one of the many special events we arrange for them year-round."
Since elves rarely get out of the North Pole, Santa's fearless helpers also had some fun as they dangled from the sky. They wrote notes to the kids on the windows, and drew their best smiley face.
They did the big hand over little hand thing.
"I could just stay with them forever," sighed 6-year-old Vance Flagg from Knox, Indiana, who is undergoing treatment for acute myeloid leukemia (AML).
"I enjoyed watching. It just kind of got my mind off everything," said 16-year-old Brandi Boehme, who is recovering from surgery.
The elves were just happy to finally play with someone other than Rudolph.
