NYFW Makeup Moment of the Day: Jay Godfrey's Sexy Rock Chicks

We loved the sad, sexy rock chicks at Jay Godfrey. They were so cool, and so exhausted-looking. Day 1 of New York's Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week didn't showcase any truly crazy looks (we're hoping they're en route, though) but Godfrey’s gothic glamour definitely stood out.

It's very right-now, between the nails (long, sharp, and shiny black) the eye makeup (dark and smudgy), and the hair (reckless-looking and wavy, it injected a good old-fashioned shot of sex appeal, balancing out all that moodiness).

The Vibe: The ladies looked jaded and tired, like they'd been out all night partying — and yet wickedly sexy, which is exactly how Godfrey wanted it.

The Muses: Aveda makeup artist Jenessa Pare and hairstylist Clay Nielsen were given pictures of rock-and-roll icons like Chrissie Hynde, Stevie Nicks, and Rolling Stones spawn Theodora Richards for inspiration.

The Makeup: It's all about the eyes. Smoky gray powder shadow on lids, black shadow lining around the eyes and in the crease that was well-blended and faded away, giving the girls that applied-last-night, slept-in, and worn-off look. (Try doing it yourself with a powdery chubby pencil.)

The Hair: The hair had the same morning-after-the-party feel as the makeup — with waves and volume looking slept-in and mussed. Create the texture with a few hot tollers, spray on some texturizeng spray, scrunch with your hands, and then forget about it. Quintessential rock star.
