You Can Pay For Your Next Marc Jacobs Purchase With A Tweet

Tweets are the new cash. So says,  Marc Jacobs, the only designer with enough chutzpah to challenge the U.S. dollar by launching a clever Internet bartering sale. Jacobs' three-day pop-up shop will allow anyone (in the vicinity of New York Fashion Week) to scoop up wares in exchange for nothing but a social media mention. No money needed, no money accepted. Seriously. If you try to pay with money, you will be branded forever uncool.

The cash-free goods will be up for grabs at a New York City location (462 West Broadway) from February 7th through the 9th. Shoppers will have access to a  selection of Marc Jacobs Daisy fragrance products, accessories and "prizes" (we're imagining it's mostly overstocked merch) in exchange for an immediate Twitter, Facebook or Instagram post on the subject, accompanied with the hashtag #MJDaisyChain. Those who make the most creative posts will win big-ticket Marc Jacobs accessories — including handbags — throughout the day.

Meanwhile, outside of the mini Marc wonderland, the new Daisy by Marc Jacobs print ads directed by Sofia Coppola, Jacobs long-time friend and muse, will debut, while an army of bright young things will hit the streets of some of the coolest cities — NYC, Berlin, London — handing out fresh daisies to strangers, hippie style.

Brilliant marketing ploy? Absolutely. Considering the social media giveaway coincides with New York Fashion Week and the launch of Daisy’s latest campaign, Jacobs' camp isn't exactly motivated by generosity.  If the plan works, hundreds of fans will do the dirty work of making his campaign a trending topic.  Then again, getting paid in designer swag seems like a fair trade off.
