NYFW Makeup Moment of the Day: Degen's Valley Girl Nails

Remember how yesterday was all about moody, smokey, rock star black?  Well, today's New York Fashion Week beauty moment was all about the preppy chic and the sunny spirit of the classic California valley girl. Specifically, their rainbow-strewn, blue-sky-inspired nails.

Though sharp, evil-looking nails are all the rage right now, designer Lindsay Degen's theme for her show was "how a child feels like when they see a rainbow for the first time." And the young designer's inspirational slogan was translated very literally on to the models' nails. The painted-on blue skies, puffy clouds, and rainbows were about as bizarre as you could get in the edgy world of Fashion Week. Plus — plus! — those nails totally matched the rainbow socks the models were wearing beneath their customized Crocs.

The whole thing was utterly un-fashiony, and yet, in the end, that's what made it so fashionable. Crocs, rainbow nails, and matching socks? That's why we love the weirdness that is Fashion Week.
