New York Fashion Week Beauty: Is Nail Art Dead?

New York Fashion Week comes to a close tomorrow, and while there were definitely shocking moments both in beauty and fashion this season--zebra-print hair at Rodarte! neon matte lips at Prabal!--it was nail art, or the lack thereof, that had us talking at Allure. Spring 2014 is looking to be the season of the nude, polished, restrained nail.

Backstage at yesterday's Tory Burch show, nail artist Marian Newman told me the current nail trend is "done, supergroomed, and supersimple." Each model's fingers and toes were painted with M.A.C. nail lacquer in Cream Delicate, a light pink nude. At DKNY and Donna Karan, nails wore coats of Essie Limo-Scene and Essie Mademoiselle, while at DVF, a polish in an Allure-inspired sheer white nude shade called Allure made a showing. Nude and light pink nails were also spotted at Thakoon, Herve Leger, and Derek Lam.

So is this the end of nail art? Perhaps not, since there were still shows that pushed the boundaries with tortoiseshell, starburst, and half-moon designs. Either way, I can certainly get behind this nude nail resurgence: I never quite got the hang of the whole drawing-tiny-masterpieces-with-my-nondominant-hand thing.
