'Daddy-Approved' Prom Dresses on Fox. Gross.

Prom-gown season is many months away. But lucky for us (not), Fox and Friends provided a sneak peek of what’s to come: a new line of “daddy-approved” gowns. And yes, the segment was totally creepy.

The dresses, created by “Duck Dynasty” star Sadie Robertson and longtime gown designer Sherri Hill, just debuted at New York Fashion Week. And they were cute enough. But the concept behind the dresses, not so much: They were meant to be chaste — decent enough, even, for Robertson’s father, Willie (making them, ahem, “Willie approved”). And not surprisingly, the smirking bros of the show, Brian Kilmeade and Steve Doocy, couldn’t resist taking more of a “Who’s your Daddy?” tack to the whole presentation.

“Brian, is that daddy-approved?” Doocy asked when a young model appeared in a red tulle cocktail dress.

“As long as you can zip it back on!” he mused, prompting confused laughter. “Heh heh, I’m only kidding, that looks fantastic!”

Another cocktail dress prompted this from Kilmeade: “You know, to me, that looks like it can almost be too short. At what level, Sherri, do you say ‘that’s too short,’ and ‘that’s just right’?”

Hill played into the coy daddy theme with her answer: “We’ll have to check with Willie on that!”

Then came Kilmeade’s truly odd fashion advice. “Sadie, I don’t want to give you ideas, but maybe next year, pockets.” Please.

Gretchen Carlson, bless her heart, kept trying her best to bring the segment back to straight-up design questions, asking Hill if floral patterns were in this year, eliciting a bit of a nauseating reply.

“Lace, florals, everything very feminine. You know, girls want to be pretty for the party,” she said.

Jezebel’s Erin Gloria Ryan summed up the train wreck of a segment nicely: “The notion that grown adult men are the stewards of their teen daughter's sexuality: kinda shuddersome.”
