11 Limited-Edition Designer Barbies for Grown-Ups

by Fawnia Soo Hoo

Like style icons Kate Moss, Inès de la Fressange, and Grace Kelly, Barbie also enjoys the vaunted status of designer muse--and you might be surprised to see the famous labels that have dressed her. As if the fabulous car and dream house weren't enough, these custom-created outfits (and accessories!) from Versace, Burberry, the Blonds, and others make us truly envious. Lucky doll girl! Scroll down for Barbie's 10 best designer looks of all time.

Barbie Doll by Coach
Coach outfitted Barbie in the label's uptown-chic classics: the Tattersall trench over a striped sweater and an ultra-suede skirt, which boasts a teeny-tiny replica of the signature turn-locks on the label's bags. And this Barbie knows how to accessorize: with matching bold red sunglasses, a classic Coach bucket bag, and color-block tasseled sandals.

Barbie Doll by Stephen Burrows
Music, dance, and movement inspired legendary designer Stephen Burrows for his showgirl-worthy Barbie. He skillfully brought together a few showstopping trends (which we're actually seeing on the runways now): metallic, sheer paneling, mesh, embellishments, and a Louis Vuitton spring '14-esque feathered headpiece.

Barbie Doll by Trina Turk
The Los Angeles-based designer outfitted Malibu Barbie in '70s-inspired SoCal chic: a printed bikini, an embroidered cover-up, killer wedges, and white-hot shades. Trina Turk made sure that Barbie packed her woven tote appropriately too: with a lively hat, scarf, and towel set, plus doll-size sunscreen (hope it's SPF 50 or higher). The best part: She has tan lines. Isn't that amazing?

Barbie Doll by The Blonds
Clearly the design duo who created envelope-pushing outfits for Miley Cyrus' Bangerz tour would come up with a stageworthy ensemble for Babs. Her gilded outfit includes a corseted and fringed chain-link onesie, space goddess-esque cuffs and earrings, and a doll stand inspired by bars of gold. Baller.

Barbie Doll by Hervé Léger by Max Azria
Hervé Léger by Max Azria actually gave Barbie not one but two exclusive club- and red-carpet--ready outfits. There's the red bandage dress with bondage harness belt and matching gladiator stilettos (saucy, Barbie!) and the runway-inspired black-and-white jacquard mini with platform booties and a pyramid-studded clutch. Honestly, we're not sure Barbie's dream house has enough closet space to fit all her swag.

Barbie Doll by Bob Mackie
Legendary Hollywood costumer and go-to fashion designer Bob Mackie helped Barbie celebrate her 45th anniversary (lookin' good, huh?) in 2003 with this Oscars red-carpet-worthy brocade gown. If you look closely, you'll notice her bling-tastic earrings, and, no, this edition does not come with a Ken-doll bodyguard.

Barbie Doll by Kate Spade
Barbie got an Upper East Side-meets-the Hamptons makeover, courtesy of Kate Spade. The whole look is just delightful--the vibrant floral trench, her green kick flares and mules, the wicker handbag, and Kate's PUPPY in the canvas tote! Think Barbie drives her convertible or takes the jitney out to Amagansett?

Barbie Doll by Burberry

Barbie does Britain in a classic Burberry trench accented with the heritage brand's signature tartan weave in a skirt, a scarf, and cool messenger bag. She adds a touch of glam with her tall stiletto boots. How very Suki Waterhouse.

Barbie Doll by Christian Louboutin
Barbie played muse to the legendary shoe designer not once but 12 times--enough to make a fashion-filled calendar. There's a dreamy backstory too. Barbie spends a year in Paris visiting her godfather Christian Louboutin, who takes his young muse on a fah-bulous tour of all his favorite destinations. Obviously, she gets a glamorous outfit for all her outings. Here she's heading to Cannes in a gown custom-designed by the Parisian bow-maker who helps make Louboutin's IRL satin shoes. Obviously, Barbie gets her pick of droolworthy heels too--each doll comes with a set of three Loubs (iconic boxes and dust bags included). Is it normal to be jealous of a doll?

Barbie Doll by Zuhair Murad
What do J.Lo and Barbie have in common? They both have been dressed by the fabulous couturier Zuhair Murad. The Lebanese designer drew inspiration from Egyptian princesses in creating this striated, beaded gown, which has been remade (not to mention resized!) for Barbie. Red-carpet-ready is an understatement for this one!
