3 Signs That Kimye Is Here to Stay in the Fashion World

Everybody said it would never happen, but Kim Kardashian finally scored the cover of Vogue this month, appearing in a wedding gown alongside her fiancé, Kanye West. The headline? #worldsmosttalkedaboutcouple.

Although the cover quickly became the subject of scorn (actress Sarah Michelle Gellar tweeted that she was going to cancel her subscription) and parody (James Franco and Seth Rogen, who previously spoofed Kanye and Kim's music video for "Bound 2," did their own version of the cover), the issue featuring Kimye is about to break a sales record and is close to outselling covers with Michelle Obama and Beyonce. This means one thing — their status as a style power couple is official.

But this is no overnight sensation. Despite the fashion world's oftenfraught relationship with the couple,  Kanye and Kim have been proving their prowess for some time now. Here are five other pieces of evidence that they're both headed for style icon status:

They have A-list fashion connections
Once the Vogue cover was released, Kimye was spotted out at dinner in NYC with influential Vogue editor Anna Wintour, who is widely considered the most powerful person in fashion. Kanye is also BFF with Riccardo Tisci, the head designer for Givenchy, who is reportedly going to create Kim's wedding dress. Tisci's last look for Kim was her much-maligned rose-print dress for the Met Ball, so let's hope he takes a different approach this time around.

They're also designers
Kanye's collection for A.P.C. sold out in one day. He interned for Louis Vuitton and Fendi and now has a partnership with Adidas, where he has a new sneaker line coming out soon. Meanwhile, Kim — who launched a clothing, decor and accessories line for Sears along with her sisters in 2012 — continues to sartorially spin off her namebrand. Earlier this year, she introduced a kids' line for Babies R Us, that even managed to impress some fashion insiders.

They're turning it into a family business
Kanye and Kim are thinking big when it comes to their fashion careers – world domination big. Kim's sister Kendall Jenner is the latest 'It' model — she recently walked in Fashion Week shows for Chanel and Marc Jacobs.  Could there be two Vogue covers in the same family? It's a very real possibility. Meanwhile, Kim and Kanye brought daughter North in for their Vogue shoot, landing her in the pages of the hallowed glossy before she's even old enough to walk.
