4 Easy Styles for a Sexy Hair Day

Our favorite cutting-edge styles aren't just ridiculously pretty, but they also have hidden powers. Try them yourself and watch frizz, flatness, and unruliness suddenly disappear.

Total-Babe Braid

Tease all the hair above your ears with a comb. Now take the front section from temple to temple, and twist it to create a bump, then pin it in place, says NYC stylist Robert Lyon, who created the looks here. Continue this process (pull up a 1-inch section, give it a twist, and pin), moving from the front to the back of the teased section. Set with an aerosol spray, like Herbal Essences Set Me Up Max Hold Hairspray, $3. Finally, push strands to one side and braid, starting from the very top, where hair is not pinned.

BONUS:A bombshell bump nixes limpness, giving you instant volume.

Double the Drama

Wash your hair, and follow with a deep conditioner (such as Dove Daily Moisture Therapy, $4), which will create a smooth surface. Blow-dry with a flat brush, then create a deep side part at one temple. Separate tresses into two equal sections down the back of your head, and pull hair in front of your shoulders so it covers your ears. Secure pigtails in place under the ears (they should cover your earlobes) rather than behind. "This keeps them sophisticated, not schoolgirl," says Lyon. Let bangs or long layers fall naturally - a little hair over an eye is flirty - then finish with a shot of shine (we like Garnier Fructis Nutrient Spray, $6).

BONUS: Low side ponies make grown-out layers look more polished, extending your time between pro trims.

Greek Goddess Twists

Part your hair down the middle, and grab a 3-inch section of hair on each side, near your temples. Coat each with a dime-size drop of styling cream, like Tresemmé FreshStart No-Frizz Crème, $5. Now hold each side with its respective hand just above your ears, and simultaneously twist them inward toward your crown. Pull the twists so they meet at the midback of your head, and pin in place. "Point the bobby-pin openings up so hair doesn't fall out," says Lyon. To get the bedhead look everywhere else, apply a texturizing product (like Rusk Thick Body and Texture Amplifier, $13), then tease tresses with a brush.

BONUS: Soft twists force hairline fuzz to lie flat, perfect for sticky summer days.

Sexy '70s Hair

This style looks like you've pulled an all-nighter in bed and woken up with amazing texture. Its secret weapon: mousse. (Aveeno Nourish+ Style Volumizing Foam, $7, gives awesome body.) Distribute a golf-ball size of it through damp hair, then flip your head over and blow-dry, tousling with your fingers until strands are 90 percent dry. Stand up and finish drying hair in small sections with a large round brush, says Lyon. To make waves, twist 1- to 2-inch chunks of hair around your finger, then wrap them around the barrel of a large curling iron for 10 seconds. Loosen everything with your fingers, then spray for hold (try Pantene Ice Shine Hairspray, $3.99).

BONUS: Ideal for fine hair, bedhead waves inject loads of texture.
