4 Expert Tips: Choosing the Right Foundation For Your Skin Type

One of the toughest cosmetic conundrums can be choosing the perfect foundation. By the time you find your shade, the right formula for your skin type, and something weather-appropriate that fits your budget - your heads spinning and you're ready to bolt for the door. Skin care expert and creator of cosmetic line Paula's Choice, Paula Begoun, shared her tips to make foundation shopping a little easier.

Paula breaks it down by your skin type:

1. Dull or Dry: Try foundations with shine to add a subtle glow to your face.

Paula recommends: NARS Sheer Glow Foundation, $42 and Maybelline New York Dream Matte Mousse with Airbush Finish, $8.79

2. Normal to Dry: Water-based and standard liquid foundations work best. They blend easy and provide a smooth finish once set with powder and a hint of blush.

3. Normal to Oily or Combination: Pressed powder-based foundations are great for quick application and provide good coverage. They work well over sunscreen, too.

4. Oily: If you're makeup slips. you live in a humid climate and have oily skin, try ultra-matte foundations. They offer medium to full coverage and stay put.
