5 Beauty Trends Men Can't Stand

Some beauty looks are strictly for ladies night out. When you want to get your guy's attention, steer clear of these over-the-top trends and focus on what turns him on.

1) Fake Eyelashes

Hot date? If you're not skilled with faux lashes and glue, you may want to rethink falsies. "Men don't like anything that looks fake," says Fisher. "It's distracting, and they want to see the real you." Try one of these guy-approved beauty products.

2) Putrid Polish

The smell that turns off approximately 52 percent of guys? Nail polish! You know it's not his favorite thing, but you might not know how much those fumes bother him. "I can't stand the smell. It gives me an instant headache," says Scott, 28. Plus, it's a beauty ritual that doesn't resonate with most males. Not that you gotta bag your bright nails on his account-just try not to whip out the polish when you're watching TV together (or at least crack a window!). Plus: Find out what guys think about funky polish.

3) Out-of-the-Blue Bronzed

We asked 100 guys on the street: Is a deep tan during a non-sunny season foxy or too fake? 75 percent said too fake and the other 25 percent said foxy. Opt for a lotion with gradual self-tanners to give yourself a subtle glow, if you're feeling really pasty. But don't be afraid to show off your natural skin shade- here's what guys really notice about your looks.

4) Glitter

Perhaps it's time to swear off the body glitter for good. 52 percent of the men we surveyed want you to banish this beauty product from your stash. Why? "It gets all over me, my apartment, and my clothes!" complains Nicholas, 26. It might be fun to dust on some sparkly glitter for a girls' night out, but when you're with him, stick to a natural look that seems lit up from within.

5) Unnatural Makeup

When surveying men, their top complaint about your look is when your makeup is piled on-they hate not knowing what's underneath. Try these makeup tips to turn him on. Plus, it's just not natural. "Being all done up can mask natural indicators of good health that turn guys on," says Fisher. That doesn't mean go barefaced- the trick is to create a look that seems au naturel to men. Try sheer foundation and a dab of rosy blush and nude lip gloss to accentuate your skin tone, says NYC makeup artist Christian McCulloch.
