Trying new hairstyles is fun (have you picked up Allure Hair: The Ultimate How-To Hair Guide yet?). But no matter how you twist, turn, or pin--a new 'do won't look good on hair that's dry, damaged, and generally just blah. And trust me, I've got all sorts of that going on in this polar vortex. Here are the products I've found to really make a difference on these five winter hair issues:

Dryness and Static: Weleda Oat Replenishing Treatment
All that static crackling around your head is caused by low humidity, indoor heating, and friction from hats and scarves. So crank down the heat, lose the beanie (when you can) and coat the hair in this shea butter, oat protein, and coconut oil mask.

Breakage: Neutrogena Triple Repair Leave-In Cream
Your hair is most prone to snapping in two when it's dry. This protein-rich mask smooths and reinforces the hair's cuticle.

Itchy Scalp: Tresemme Renewal Hair and Scalp Conditioning Mask
If you're like me, you wash your hair way less frequently when it's cold outside. But that can cause oil and yeast to multiply on the scalp. This mask has soothing tea tree oil to kill growth.

Buildup: Pantene Pro-V Weekly Deep Cleanse
That no-washing thing? It's also causing product buildup and grease on your pretty little head. This deep cleanse removes a week's worth of grime without making your hair feel like all the moisture was sucked right out of it.

Dullness: John Frieda Colour Refreshing Gloss
Heat styling (read: blow drying, curling, straightening, and everything else you do on the daily) lifts the hair's cuticle so light reflects more haphazardly, says dermatologist Karyn Grossman. This gloss hydrates, brightens, and deposits just a bit of semi-permanent color to get you to your next color appointment--that is, once the roads have cleared.
