5 Hot Fragrances You'll Want to Wear in 2011

Hemline lengths aren't the only things that change with the years. So do fragrance preferences-and smelling sweet is so 2010. (The year's best-selling new perfumes were Gucci Guilty and Chanel's Chance Eau Tendre, according to market research firm NPD Group, and they both smell sweet enough to eat.)

What's on the olfactory lineup for 2011? The New York Times got predictions from fragrance insiders and, the result? Earthy is in. Below, Allure's beauty editors pick the best perfumes from each category, so you can start smelling like 2011 before everyone else does.

Oud.
This scent may be familiar to some of your middle eastern friends, since it perfumes much of the region. Made from the fragrant resin of the agarwood tree, it smells woodsy and exotic.

Ambrox. Though it sounds like a vixen who you might battle in a video game, ambrox is actually a scent that smells like balsam wood, tobacco, and amber.

Powder. Even if sweet is out, feminine doesn't have to be. Some of the new powdery scents use heliotrope, which smells like vanilla and a dusty vintage store.
