5 Lipstick Shades that Work on Everyone

What's worse than buying a lipstick at the drugstore, only to find that it's too sheer or frosty? And once you use it, you typically can't return it and you're out the money.

Enter RealBeauty.com's Ultimate Lipstick Challenge: one day, eight diverse women, and 137 lipsticks. Being surrounded by the best lipstick brands out there would be any beauty lover's euphoria, but we had a mission to accomplish: find lipstick shades that will work seemingly on every woman.

Well, we did it, and we have the testimonies to prove it. Our models range in age from 20s to mid-40s, and are of almost every ethnic background under the sun. Read on to find out which shades made the cut.

Nude - Smashbox Photo Finish Lipstick in Flawless

We had the most nudes to test out of all the shades so we were happy to find one that didn't look muddy. Camille describes the hue as "a subtle tint of color that makes me feel chic without overdoing it." Click here to see how it looks on everyone and where to buy it.

Red - MAC Lipstick in Ruby Woo

This crimson shade had an instant shock-factor and took all of our models by surprise. "I loved the texture of this lipstick, it was very light and comfortable and lasted for hours - not to mention the color was phenomenal." says Elizabeth. Brown - Maybelline Color Sensational in Crazy for Coffee

"Brown was a color I avoided because I thought it would make me look washed out," says Wendy. "Instead, this shade gives me a warm glow and now it's one of my favorite new lipsticks." Click here to see the winning brown on everyone else and where to buy it.

Pink - Lancome L'Absolu Rouge in Voile de Rose

Our biggest challenge was finding a pink that would work on everyone, but especially on our red head in the group. "Pink's a tough shade to work with when you're 40," says Erin. "Too bubble-gummy and you look like mutton dressed as lamb. Too rosy and you start wondering when people will be calling you grandma. This shade actually brought some color into my cheeks, which just shows that it's the right tone for my skin." Click here to to see this shade on everyone where to buy it.

Berry - Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey

The most surprising shade of all was our berry pick. The hue came out looking different on everyone, but still complimented and worked with their skin tones. "I really liked this shiny berry tinted color. It made my lips look more luscious and kissable," says Nina. Click here to see how this magic shade changes on everyone and where to buy it.
