Amy Winehouse For Fred Perry: Let's Discuss

By Tracey Lomrantz, Glamour magazine

It was almost two years ago that we first brought you the news that Amy Winehouse would be teaming up with Fred Perry on a capsule collection--and now it's finally come true! Get your sneak peek at the 17-piece celebrity designed clothing line...

"I'm really excited about doing this collection with Fred Perry," the songstress said in a press release. "We've been working on it for a while and it's great to see it finally come to fruition." You can say that again! The news first broke back in January 2009, and we've been anticipating its arrival ever since. According to the Fred Perry team, "It's Amy all over - sharp, clever, sexy, lots of attitude - but stays true to the Perry aesthetic and unrivalled heritage. Classic pieces - the twin- tipped M12 polo shirt, the Harrington jacket, the jumper dress - are given the full Winehouse treatment and still remain instantly recognisable. A girly twinset has Fifties sex siren written all over it, gingham goes from homely to hot, pencil skirts become dangerously short, Capri pants find a punk- inspired edge, a mini bowling shirtdress flaunts in equal measure. Colours are predominantly black and pink. Collars are most definitely raised and ready for action. And yet for every tomboy twist there's a deeply feminine twirl."

The brand has a long history with musicians--they call themselves "a badge of honor for just about every music-led subculture from ska to hip hop"--and I have to admit, as skeptical as I first was about this odd pairing, I feel like it really works! The clothes have a 1950s pinup kind of vibe to them, and the retro-sexy thing is totally Amy. Prices range from around $100 for a leather belt to $430 for a cropped trench coat, and everything is available at FredPerry.com (and hits stores on Friday). The collaboration will also continue another season into spring 2011.

Check out the whole range now, then let us know what you think...is this one of the more memorable celebrity designer lines? Do you think Amy is a legitimate style inspiration? Would you want to look like her? Discuss!
