Carrie Bradshaw is a character many women love and some ladies loathe. Likewise, "Sex and the City" devotees have mixed feelings about Candace Bushnell's prequel, "The Carrie Diaries" coming to the small screen. Casting the right actress to portray a young Carrie Bradshaw is crucial, and we're not so sure about the selection of AnnaSophia Robb.

Robb, 18, is best known for her portrayal of Violet Beauregarde in Tim Burton's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," and most recently played shark attack victim Bethany Hamilton in "Soul Surfer." Robb was just five years old when "Sex and the City" debuted on HBO, and may lack any connection to the fashion-obsessed, boy-crazy, aspiring writer she's supposed to play. We can only hope she's preparing for the role by watching lots of the early episodes and perfecting her corny puns for voiceovers.

As for the premise, "The Carrie Diaries" is set in the 1980s and shows a young Bradshaw navigating friendships, relationships, sex, and family during her senior year of high school in New York City. The whole plot sounds very "Gossip Girl" to us, which makes sense since Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage (of "Gossip Girl" fame) and Len Goldstein (of "Hart of Dixie") will executive produce. Former "Sex and the City" writer and co-producer Amy B. Harris is adapting the book.

While the show is for intended for a teen audience, that hasn't stopped us from checking out other CW programs like "Gossip Girl" and "90210" in the past, so we will likely tune in. We're anticipating lots of fun (and tacky?) '80s-inspired outfits, reminiscing about our teen bedrooms back then (light-up telephones, Johnny Depp posters), and finally getting to meet Bradshaw's family. For example, "Running Wilde's" Stefania Owen will play Carrie's 14-year-old sister. Did we even know Carrie had a younger sister?! And perhaps most importantly, Samantha Jones also appears in the book, so we can start guessing who is fit to play a young Kim Cattrall. Who would you pick?

Would you tune in to watch "The Carrie Diaries" or are you beyond over the "Sex and the City" franchise?
