Austin Mahone sings about girls-a lot. The up-and-comer hasn't released a full-length album, but his hit singles, "Heart In My Hand" and "What About Love," are undeniably inspired by the opposite sex. So when we caught up with him before his performance at last week's Jingle Ball kick-off party, we had to ask him about all matters of the heart.

As it turns out, Austin is an old-school romantic. "For a first date, I'd probably take a girl to a nice Italian restaurant, and then maybe a nice stroll on the beach before it gets dark," he said. Awww, right? But like everyone else who's lived past the fifth grade, this guy's love life hasn't always been totally picture-perfect. "My first kiss was at a birthday party when I was 13 years old," he reminisces. "I was swimming in a pool, and this girl just pulled me underwater and kissed me-I was like, 'What just happened?!'"

But part of being a star means shaking off those embarrassing moments with a smile-something that Austin knows how to do well. "I've actually already made a fool of myself today," he laughed. "I was trying to show off a dance move when my pants totally spit right down the middle, and then when I went to go change I hit my head on a TV monitor. It was the worst!" Luckily, he was in the right place-since his performance took place in the Times Square Aéropostale store, he was able to grab a pair of jeans right off the shelf just in time for his performance.

Before we let him take the stage, we had one last question for him. Rumors that he's dating Fifth Harmony's Camilla Cabelo have run rampant since it was announced that Austin would be going on the tour with the British girl group. So once and for all, is there any truth to all that hearsay? "No, we're not dating!" he said, grinning. "She's really cool, but I've only met her once." That's not to say he'd totally write off having a girlfriend, Camilla or otherwise. "Of course I want to date-I always have time for girls!" Cue melted hearts.
