Average Woman Changes Outfits 4 Times a Day on Vacation

When it comes to vacationing, I'm a proud, self-declared heavy packer. I'll bring a dozen swimsuits for a weekend beach trip, six pairs of shoes for an overnighter -- and I'm not alone. According to a recent survey, the average woman changes her clothes four times a day while on vacation, and brings 28 outfits with her for a week-long trip. Sound excessive?

Researchers found that one in 10 women will go through at least seven outfits a day. That's practically as many wardrobe changes Katy Perry makes during a concert. But, not surprisingly, eight out of 10 women admit they don't manage to actually wear everything in their suitcase. The study also noted the average woman goes clothes shopping while on vacation, ending up back at home with even more outfits than she brought.

So how do you avoid an overstuffed suitcase? Here are some quick tips for becoming a savvy packer (from my light-traveling fellow editors):

1. Edit your shoe collection. Shoes are one of the bulkiest items you can bring, so choose two pairs: one for casual occasions, like flat sandals, and one dressier option for evenings.

2. Check the weather first. If you know the forecast beforehand, you'll be more prepared for packing and won't end up with six cardigans when it's 90 degrees outside.

3. Accessories are key. Bring a couple statement necklaces, sunglasses, or clutches to get plenty of mileage out of just a few ensembles.

What do you think? Is four outfit changes a day while on vacay overkill? How many outfits do you bring on vacation?
