Beauty Tips for Senior Women - Hair Tips for Silver Foxes

Recently a Shine reader posted a comment to my post on the Top Ten Habits for Good Skin, Health & Beauty asking "Why are women in their 70's and 80's not addressed in clothing and make-up articles? Many are still active, going to the gym and dressing their size 9 and 10 bodies in current fashions."

I took that as a challenge and will try from time to time to insert some content specifically for our "silver foxes" -- senior women. In fact, I asked a few friends to share some tips with me, and Ida, a retiree from Washington State, sent me this observation: "Hair, clothes and accessories must be tasteful for older women. No longer is short hair the only way to go."

Hair Tips for Senior Women

With Ida's observation that older women no longer have to resort to short hair styles, here are three tips for hair care for older women.

1. Use a Straightening Iron

If you wear your hair longer, consider a straightening iron or curling iron to smooth the frizziness that comes with grey hair.

2. Use a Gentle Hair Color

If your hair was formerly black and you are now in your 70s, it might be time to ditch the black hair color. A softer shade is usually more flattering and believable, and dark blacks and bright reds tend to make older skin look sallow and washed out.

3. Use Eye Shadowfor Thin Spots

If you have thinning hair -- use a matching eye shadow to fill in thinning spots! It works!
