Comedic actress Melissa McCarthy won our hearts in "Bridesmaids", so we were psyched when she earned an Emmy award for her CBS hit "Mike & Molly." But we were even more interested to learn that she made her own red carpet dress with couture dressmaker Daniella Pearl. McCarthy told the Hollywood Reporter she took matters into her own hands after none of the "9 million dresses with taffeta or shiny bows" she was presented with suited her style.

Believe it or not, the actress grew up wanting to be a fashion designer, so creating her dark purple Emmy gown was a dream come true. Then she knew she was on to something. "Trying to find stuff that's still fashion-forward in my size is damn near impossible," McCarthy told the trade paper. "It's either for like a 98-year-old woman or a 14-year-old hooker, and there is nothing in the middle." Now her childhood fantasy is becoming a reality: McCarthy is launching an entire clothing line for plus-size women.

This is such exciting news! We love when stars use their power to create things people are actually looking for. Not another fragrance or jewelry line, but a clothing collection that's fashionable and goes above a size 14 is definitely something the market could use. And you can forget your comments about McCarthy's looks: she doesn't care what you think. After having her second daughter she says she's less concerned with comments about her appearance. "I just try not to give too much energy to it," she tells the paper. "At 20, I would have been like: 'Don't they like me? Was it my hair?' At 41, I think the things that define me, I hope, are a lot more than those kinds of petty things." Amen! We could care less about McCarthy's size, we just home she keeps the funny roles coming. Besides her hosting gig on "Saturday Night Live" this weekend (yay!), "Bridesmaids" just came out on DVD and we can't wait to laugh at her hilarious, gross-out scenes one more time.
