While waiting for the ADAM show to start this weekend, I caught up on all the New York fashion week scoop from all the folks we follow with our Glamour_fashion Twitter. Highlights included the sheer nuttiness that went on at the Chanel store after-party and the sneak peek behind tonight's Marc Jacobs's show, but I surprised to learn that this post featuring a cute jeans outfit on the Sartorialist racked up a whopping 333 comments!
(Take a quick peek at the outfit, then pop back to chat!)
All the positive comments about this cute outfit made me start thinking that folks are ready to put shelve the skinny jeans for awhile (baggy boyfriend styles too!), and bring back the lean '70s bootcut jeans.
Especially since just last week, Jessica Simpson proclaimed that she's bringing back the flare in her new denim line! Then low and behold, a few minutes later several high-waist, '70s bootcut jeans hit the ADAM runway--aren't they, well, snazzy?
And then this morning, there was an equally cool pair of jeans spotted on the Derek Lam runway:
(Since we already nerded out and talked Twitter and all this morning, I'm going to go right ahead and say that I'd give this look a #omgiwanttowearthose jeansalldayeveryday tag.)
Granted, these high-waist denim styles call to mind that scene in Dazed and Confused where one of the leading characters has to be zipped into her jeans by a friend wielding a pair of pliers. Ouch! But, on the other hand, it is nice to see something "new" in the denim department and just like Jessica Simpson said, they are kind of the perfect pair of jeans to go with the chunky heels you're gonna want to wear this fall--and if you're freaked out by the shirt-tucking thing, fear not: the high-waist bootcut jean looks just as cute with a longer top that's worn over the band--belting a billowy top is a good option too.
I could spend aaaaaalllllllllll day long talking about the different ways to wear the '70s-inspired bootcut jean, but I'll zip it and let you discuss: how are we feeling these days about '70s-inspired jeans? Still loving your skinny jeans? How 'bout the baggy boyfriend jeans? Or are you like me and have a bunch of different denim cuts in your closet?
