Do You Buy The Same Thing Over And Over Again?

Last week, Susan and I did some digging at the Chloe sample sale and luckily for our bank accounts, we didn't have much success. I was wavering on one item, trying to decide if I really needed it or just wanted it because I was in the mood to buy something and didn't want to go home empty handed. I looked at the grey sweater (still a downright silly $300+) and did a quick mental scan of my closet, deciding if I really did need it.

Being fashionable doesn't mean going bankrupt. Check out these affordable finds, all under $50.

And then I remembered a grey cashmere cardigan from Uniqlo I had bought last winter, a grey wool crewneck from J. Crew, and yet another grey cardigan from Madewell that's gotten plenty of recent use. Looks like I had the grey sweater department covered! I tossed the Chloe sweater back on the pile and then went home to do some reconnaissance in my closet. Blue and white striped shirts: I own three. Black blazers: four. Skimpy little backless tops with sequins: four. Without even being aware of it, I've been buying the same items over and over again for years! My closet it stuffed with endless iterations of the same clothes that I'm clearly drawn to for whatever reason and have convinced myself I have a hole in my wardrobe for. I'm curious, are you guys guilty of the same thing? Do you buy similar items over and over again without realizing it? What pieces do you own more of than you'd ever really need?
