Do You Reapply Your Makeup in Public?

By Sarah Wexler, Allure magazine

During the super-glamorous Golden Globes, a parade of perfectly-applied makeup, coiffed hair, priceless loaned jewels, and glittery gowns, it seems any touch-up that may need to happen over the evening would go down in the restroom or in a limo, out of sight perhaps done by the professional makeup artist or hairstylist who created the look in the first place.

But during the telecast, cameras cut to Angelina Jolie, who was busy reapplying her colored lip gloss (without a mirror!) at her table. We've talked before about how inappropriate it can be to put on makeup on a subway or a restaurant, and my grandmother would think nothing was more gauche than applying lipstick at the dinner table, not to mention on national television, for all to see. But is that idea antiquated now? I admit that I constantly apply lip gloss in public-on the subway, at dinner-and don't think twice about it.

Is lip gloss really in its own category that makes reapplying in public acceptable, or should Angie have fixed her face in private?
