Does Beyonce Have a New Album in the Works?

Beyonce: No plans for an album anytime soon

The world-not remotely satisfied with Beyoncé's current world tour-continues to check its customized Sasha Fierce wrist watch and impatiently tap its foot while waiting for the singer's fifth studio album. Who cares if Beyoncé is circumventing the globe in a sparkly jumpsuit to entertain it-while battling villainous stage equipment and sassing disrespectful fans on her way? If we don't have an upcoming Beyoncé project to distract us from our dull, Pepsi-unsponsored lives, they may not be worth living-especially with only four Beyoncé CDs to blast on repeat in the background.

Beyoncé's fifth studio album was originally thought to surface sometime this spring after her Super Bowl performance. But several months and stray leaked tracks later, she is no closer to announcing a release date. Not only that, but The Hollywood Reporter sent fans into a panic on Wednesday when it reported that the Grammy winner has scrapped a full 50 songs potentially written for the album. Also distressingly: just last month, Ne-Yo revealed that Beyoncé was still struggling to "figure out" a direction for the project. The Reporter adds that the singer's label, Columbia Records, "is getting increasingly more anxious as it looks back to the costly 2011 album, 4"-which was her lowest seller yet.

In response to the widespread panic, Beyoncé's rep issued a statement to E! today, which is the revelatory equivalent of a dial tone, and which will not calm anyone's nerves:

Her rep confirms to E! News that Queen B has never scheduled a release date for the new material and that she's been busy recording the tracks while on the road for her Mrs. Carter World Tour.

Beyoncé has not commented on the news because she is busy performing on the aforementioned world tour, pulling her hair out of industrial-strength fans, and taste-testing Boston's French-American cuisine with Jay-Z. Perhaps if we decode her tour-stop-specific patter, however, we will get continued updates on the mysterious fifth album. Let's start with "How you doing, Boston? You guys have good food!" The comment section is now open for your translations.
