Donatella Versace Played By Gina Gershon, Yes Please

Who needs Daniel Day Lewis as Abraham Lincoln when you can have Gina Gershon as Donatella Versace? Lifetime just released an image of the actress in the role of the fabulously Euro-trashy designer for its upcoming TV movie “House of Versace” — and the transformation is scary good.

Gershon, 51, best known for her campy flop/cult flick, “Showgirls,” in which she played a lesbian cougar to Elizabeth Berkeley’s Vegas kitten, told the New York Post of 58-year-old Versace, “Surprisingly enough we’ve never met, though we have a lot of mutual friends. I’ve played people [on-screen] before who are still living and I’ve always met them … but I’m kind of glad I never met Donatella. She’s certainly a larger-than-life character.”

You can say that again. The plot, which is based on the book “House of Versace: The Untold Story of Genius, Murder, and Survival” chronicles the aftermath of the brutal murder of her brother, fabled designer Gianni Versace, in 1997. Although his sister became the new face of the brand and captivated the Hollywood set with her designs — especially her outrageously sexy red carpet gowns — behind the scenes, she descended into drug addiction and nearly plunged the company into financial ruin. The movie airs October 5. Mark your calendar, pull out the marabou slippers, and ice a bottle of Prosecco.
