How to Dress for Your Summer Music Fest
After months and months of waiting, this weekend marked the beginning of Coachella -- California's largest outdoor music festival. (If you missed it, no worries. It's next weekend too.) And while I love outdoor concerts, I have to admit, I was more into the fashion, hair, and makeup looks than the music. After all, Coachella has become known for its ability to spark trends, as much as is about launching new bands.

Knowing that Coachella isn't the only festival to have this style impact, I decided to do a fashion and beauty roundup of the biggest summer festivals in the country: Coachella, Burning Man, Bonnaroo, and Bumbershoot. Check out some of the looks below or click here for the full story.

Coachella Fashion Trends
Coachella is a SoCal music festival that takes place during two weekends in the middle of April. Celebrities like Vanessa Hudgens, Kate Bosworth, Katy Perry, and Ashley Green, mingle with the mostly-Cali crowd. This is the "fashionable" fest, with girls in expensive boho chic garb, waiting to get their pics snapped by street style photographers. To fit in with this crowd, there are some fashion staples you need to have:
- fringe -- whether it's on your shoulder bag, dress, or flowly vest
- floppy, wide-rim hats
- cut-off denim shorts
- sandals

Burning Man Fashion Trends
OK, so Burning Man isn't a music festival (though lots of attendees play music there), but every August thousands of people descend into Nevada's Black Desert for an art/self-expression/community gathering. The style of the festival is definitely out there. Think futuristic desert raver cyborg. To fit in with this crowd, pack a few of these items:
- combat boots, platform base optional
- heavy jewelry, warrior style
- your old Halloween costume, preferably something with wings or a tutu
Of course, you could pack nothing at all; Burning Man is known for its love of nudity …

Bonnaroo Fashion Trends
Bonnaroo is a music and arts festival that takes place every June in Manchester, Tennessee. As far as festivals go, this hippie gathering probably comes the closest to the most iconic music festival ever: Woodstock. And with tons of activities happening in addition to the music -- like "The Big Ass Water Slide," "Adult Swim Ragbag of Jollification," and "Silent Disco" -- you're sure to leave Bonnaroo wet, muddy, and a wee bit altered (if you know what we mean).
For this event, you'll need the following items:
- bikini -- and know that the top will eventually take the place of any shirt or tank
- wrap skirt
- John Lennon round frame sunglasses
- hippie headband or bandana

Bumbershoot Fashion Trends
Bumbershoot is the exact opposite of Burning Man. This low-key Seattle music festival happens in September, and the attendees usually look pulled together and practical. (Oh, Seattle.) For this music event, make sure to pack:
- long sleeve flannel shirt
- sturdy umbrella
- favorite pair of broken-in jeans
- light coat or outdoor vest
