Exclusive Tips from Legendary Makeup Artist Pat McGrath!

Every morning this week, we'll be posting the best new makeup tips from Pat McGrath, which Allure scored at a recent meeting with her. In case you've been living under a beauty rock for the past few years, McGrath is the most prolific, influential makeup artist backstage at the fashion shows (for the most recent season alone, she did the makeup for Oscar de la Renta, Dolce & Gabbana,Versace,Lanvin, and Louis Vuitton). She's also the creative design director for Cover Girl,Max Factor, and Dolce & Gabbana's cosmetics line (they're all part of Procter & Gamble Beauty). The woman's kind of a legend, if you catch our drift.

McGrath's trick for making false eyelashes look real.

Today's tip: Backstage, to give the eyelids a strong sheen (as McGrath did for the Anna Sui show shown here), makeup artists often use greasy, gooey products that look stunning on the runway but would drip down your face in a hot minute in real life. Off the catwalk, McGrath recommends first dusting on your favorite shadow, then applying just the top coat from one of Max Factor's Lipfinity Lipsticks-it's the balm half of a two-part lipstick, usually you just use it to shine up the long-wearing color. It will add a pretty gloss to your lids without feeling sticky or melting right off. You're welcome!
